This feels like a good time for lots of non trans people to loudly state the truth that trans people are good and more out and visible trans people is good for society.
PS boosting this post doesn’t count get out there folks.
@rooster I do that and want more people to do it, so I’m boosting, too!

@rooster wouldn't it be nice if people cared about causes that don't only affect themselves?

I find that when I try to speak up for other communities I just get labeled a "woke liberal" or something. Bc apparently compassion is a bad thing?

@CordiallyChloe honestly it’d be nice if more people believed we were a positive force in society and not a group that should be merely tolerated.
@rooster that's a fair point as well. It seems like so many people around me do little more than "tolerate" my transition. I hear a lot of "I'm trying so hard to remember your name and pronouns! Isn't that enough?" And like, no, it's really not. That's actually the bare minimum. It's what you do for everyone else around you without making a big deal of it. You're not a martyr.
@rooster @CordiallyChloe
I’d like to know why the media isn’t talking about the domestic terrorist attack on Moore Co, NC! This was a direct result of the drag queen story time. I know being a drag performer does not equal being trans but it the same cesspool of hatred and needs to cease

@WendyKammer @rooster @CordiallyChloe Maybe we just live in different circles -- I went to high school & college not far from there, I work in infosec -- but I feel like I've been swamped in discussion of the attack on Duke Energy facilities.

And that's a good thing. It's an important story.

@CordiallyChloe @rooster Funny, I get pinged by fascists for caring about things that "don't affect me". It's all part of making us think we can't win and it's all bullshit.
@CordiallyChloe @rooster Keep doing good regardless. You own your reality and people describe themselves to others unknowingly so don't flinch.
@CordiallyChloe @rooster
I take real pleasure in seeing trans characters in fiction living ordinary lives. I look forward to a time when trans people are regularly on screen as normal. I look forward even more to when that becomes nothing out of the ordinary.
@firdarrig @CordiallyChloe @rooster percentage-wise it's a fringe group and will always be out of the ordinary.
@hyc @firdarrig @rooster Hey! There's actually more of us than Jewish people! So how about not using dehumanizing, degrading language and instead learn a bit of empathy for marginalized groups? Because this sort of rhetoric never leads to good things.
@CordiallyChloe what words did I use that were dehumanizing or degrading? Speaking as someone who grew up as the only Asian kid in all-white schools, I'm well acquainted with being marginalized. You're not ordinary, that's reality. Whether you consider that a positive or negative is up to you.

@hyc "fringe group" implies we're on the outskirts of society and shouldn't be bothered with. "out of the ordinary" implies our existence is not "normal."

Now that you've had your lesson on how to not say shitty things for the day, stop using your struggles as a reason to bring other people down and instead use them as a jumping point for how you could make the world a better place for people with similar experiences.

@CordiallyChloe It's not about bringing people down. if you think being out of the ordinary is shitty, that's on you, not me. Lots of people spend their whole lives trying to find ways to stand out from the crowd. Saying you're out of the ordinary wasn't an insult or an attack.

@hyc @CordiallyChloe
I'm guessing here, but I believe the word that she interpreted as shitty was "fringe". I suspect most people would take umbrage at that term. Asian Americans are a minority in my city, but we don't refer to them as fringe.

Just my guess, as I don't want to presume to speak for her.

@rooster @firdarrig @CordiallyChloe I watch so many programs with a trans character and I really love it, I would love it more if at least one of them was main enough to feature regular trans stories to highlight their plight.
@CordiallyChloe @rooster I hold these truths to be self-evident: Woke is a good thing. Derision is a bad thing. Being the target of derision isn't a pleasant experience, but you aren't swimming upstream unless you attract some of it. Going continuously with the flow doesn't foment positive change. The status quo isn't working for many of the people we love, which is, on our best days, pretty much everybody.
Now - everybody in the pool for some laps.
@rooster It's a great time to point that out. It's always a great time to point out truths.
@rooster I think of that sometimes as a side effect of me marrying my husband. It wasn't in my mind at all when he confided in me his need to transition but the fact that it didn't affect me in the slightest and that I'm publicly loud out about that is a display to others that I like.
@rooster there's a lot of beauty in being trans that deserves to be celebrated
@BoxFullOfLeaves yes! Beauty and positive impact on those around us. Not just in our living authentic joyful lives but in forcing society to confront and think about gender in new ways.
@rooster @BoxFullOfLeaves As someone who is probably NB, but grew up in a world where that was never an option, it warms my heart that others can live their truth. In doing so trans people not only offer new and valuable thoughts and critiques on gender in our society, but you're blazing a trail for those who have come before and after you. This is a great gift that trans people offer society, often at a high personal cost. All this to say, Thank You ♥️
@alchemistsstudio @BoxFullOfLeaves @rooster remember that now is never too late to live as the gender that speaks true to you
@unfossil @BoxFullOfLeaves @rooster That's an inspiring thought! Neither gender really resonates with me, or bo both do 🤔 I've *almost* added they/them pronouns to my bio more than a few times. It may be time for that.

@BoxFullOfLeaves @alchemistsstudio @rooster Yeah! If you want to start going by they/them and put that in your bio then do what is right for you. I know that a lot of people use online spaces to kind of check out and explore gender because of the interactions behind the screen.

I will also say I have heard some nonbinary people say neither or both at the same time. Nonbinary genders are vast! I am both a man and a very distinct gender called maverique

@unfossil @BoxFullOfLeaves @rooster Thanks for your insights and sharing your experience. You've given me more to think about. I hope you have a great rest of your week!
@alchemistsstudio @unfossil @BoxFullOfLeaves @rooster Right. I have had he/him on my work signature line for so long now. Seems really scary to change it.

@rooster I agree with you. And trans people are GOOD and more who are able to be themselves is a good thing.

(And yes, I am cis. So shouting it for you, not for me).

@rooster I totally and wholeheartedly agree. The impact of trans- and non-binary people being out and open is always a good one, especially on people who might feel trapped in the closet or those who have no idea what’s “wrong with them” (nothing!) when in fact they are trans. My partner is trans-masc non-binary and never have I ever learned as much and opened my Horizont as in conversations with him.
@bluegirlgoespink trans folks are such a positive thing for non trans people. Like you said, helping people feel comfortable in their own skin and broadening their own horizons about gender, as well as exposing inequalities and issues with systems and societal structures.
@rooster yes. Indeed. All LGBTQ+ should recognize the threats and speak out
@rooster I just wonder about a society that isn't inclusive. I wonder how long it will continue before it destroys itself.
@rooster @RiverEnodian People being truly themselves is a blessing.
@rooster More visible trans people means there are fewer people suppressing who they are on the inside. It has to be a good thing.
@rooster Agreed trans people being out and visible is good for society.
@rooster my nephew is trans and I love him so much!!
@lenabee @rooster We have a dear trans and she's rocking it in the Northwest
@rooster TRANS PEOPLE ARE GOOD AND MORE OUT TRANS PEOPLE ARE GOOD FOR SOCIETY. and I'm here to fight about it if you're not anything but supportive of my brothers and sisters and those that still aren't sure.

@rooster @gme

I wish I knew some constitutional lawyers who could help to draft a new amendment to the constitution guaranteeing the right to bodily autonomy and personal identity.

@rooster It is a very good day with out and visible trans people in it! AND it is not only good for society, it is necessary for the health and well-being of society.
@rooster I only ever knew one trans woman personally, she was our IT lady and lovely. Also, when my almost 80 year old Mum, who is very conservative and we almost never agree on anything, knows how to defend a trans child to her grandmother because that’s what compassion means everyone can and should! We need a kinder world and people to feel comfortable to be themselves. Hopefully a trans person will feel I am going to be VERY LOUD cheering them on.
#trans #transgender
@rooster You're right, it's a great time to point out that trans people great folks and important members of our daily community! It's amazing and heart warming how many openly trans folks are working regular jobs in my community, because trans folks ARE regular folks with regular lives. Trans lives are human lives.
@rooster Among the things that make me grumpy (Hey it's a hobby). The belief that somehow someone's gender or sexuality, is one of the biggest. People are people, treasure them for being themselves.
@rooster A society that allows people to be their authentic selves without harm to others is a kinder, richer, more vibrant society.
@AldoBillingslea @rooster No doubt about it. #TransRightsAreHumanRights and #trans folks absolutely deserve to be celebrated. The fact that the fascists have decided to make trans people a prime target of their bigotry is reprehensible.
@MothmanJunior @rooster Agreed, Daniel. Christ spoke of the kindness shown to those on the margins. He didn’t say go harass the vulnerable and target the children!

@rooster It is a good time for non trans people to get out there and stand up for us. Putting "trans rights" in your bio or boosting a post ain't it. You need to fight for us.

While we're here try to keep in mind that Trans people aren't just good for helping other people out of the closet. We contribute other things to society besides being a guidepost for other trans people. We need to be employed, housed, and accepted at every level of society.

It's not enough to say "trans rights are human rights" we need more than that.

@rooster It's all true — trans folks are a net good for society and should be recognised as such! 🏳️‍⚧️💜
@rooster Trans people are normal variations on the human experience. We aren't inherently better or worse than anyone else. We do bring a different perspective that is interesting and valuable, though
@rooster I am cishet; Trans and others in the LGBTQIA community are awesome. Understanding that gets even better as one digs into the science.
@rooster yeah your absolutely right
@rooster TRANS PEOPLE ARE GOOD AND MORE OUT AND VISIBLE TRANS PEOPLE IS GOOD FOR SOCIETY

@rooster

It's honestly why I try to wear stuff with pro LGBT+ messaging, like pride flag pins.

If it makes even one person on the street feel safer. It's worth it.

@rooster I second that statement 😁
