@rooster wouldn't it be nice if people cared about causes that don't only affect themselves?
I find that when I try to speak up for other communities I just get labeled a "woke liberal" or something. Bc apparently compassion is a bad thing?
@WendyKammer @rooster @CordiallyChloe Maybe we just live in different circles -- I went to high school & college not far from there, I work in infosec -- but I feel like I've been swamped in discussion of the attack on Duke Energy facilities.
And that's a good thing. It's an important story.
@hyc "fringe group" implies we're on the outskirts of society and shouldn't be bothered with. "out of the ordinary" implies our existence is not "normal."
Now that you've had your lesson on how to not say shitty things for the day, stop using your struggles as a reason to bring other people down and instead use them as a jumping point for how you could make the world a better place for people with similar experiences.
@hyc @CordiallyChloe
I'm guessing here, but I believe the word that she interpreted as shitty was "fringe". I suspect most people would take umbrage at that term. Asian Americans are a minority in my city, but we don't refer to them as fringe.
Just my guess, as I don't want to presume to speak for her.

@BoxFullOfLeaves @alchemistsstudio @rooster Yeah! If you want to start going by they/them and put that in your bio then do what is right for you. I know that a lot of people use online spaces to kind of check out and explore gender because of the interactions behind the screen.
I will also say I have heard some nonbinary people say neither or both at the same time. Nonbinary genders are vast! I am both a man and a very distinct gender called maverique
@rooster I agree with you. And trans people are GOOD and more who are able to be themselves is a good thing.
(And yes, I am cis. So shouting it for you, not for me).
@rooster It is a good time for non trans people to get out there and stand up for us. Putting "trans rights" in your bio or boosting a post ain't it. You need to fight for us.
While we're here try to keep in mind that Trans people aren't just good for helping other people out of the closet. We contribute other things to society besides being a guidepost for other trans people. We need to be employed, housed, and accepted at every level of society.
It's not enough to say "trans rights are human rights" we need more than that.
It's honestly why I try to wear stuff with pro LGBT+ messaging, like pride flag pins.
If it makes even one person on the street feel safer. It's worth it.
