@timtfj yeah, sorry, the part "on your posts" is redundant. I wanted to ask two questions in one poll but run out of options. so the queston is how you "read" (not post) posts of various languages.
your use is valid and great, but people also have to have this setting in their config for this feature to actually work.
@luka Ï filter languages I don't understand. In my defense (?) I have something like 15 languages activated that I *do* understand (or am willing to look up the parts I don't understand).
It has nothing to do with negative sentiments against languages I don't understand, I just don't have the time & energy to look up translations for everything and scrolling a lot gets tedious.
@luka I have my filter set to English, since that is the only language I speak. But other languages still come through occasionally, and I’m not sure why.
For the purposes of this poll, I’m not sure how to answer. I have a filter in place, but it is inconsistent.
(Obviously I don’t see it when it works, so “inconsistent” could be anything from “it isn’t working at all” to “it catches almost all of it, but a few slip through.”)
Attached: 1 image I'm really glad our server, #SocialCoop, enabled Mastodon 4.0's translation feature. I'm now following a few non-English accounts and it's super-seamless. I actually prefer it to Twitter's, in which I can't translate from the timeline view, only from individual tweets (web UI). If your server doesn't have it enabled yet, might be worth considering! And if it does - go follow some non-English accounts and give it a try :)
