Scientists have finally achieved it. After years of painstaking research and lab experiments, mankind has finally created the purest, most concentrated, dumbest possible take.

Congress should end the war in Ukraine by withdrawing from NATO

Congress can end the war in Ukraine and win a Nobel Peace Prize by enacting a statute withdrawing the United States from NATO.

The Hill

@Pwnallthethings

i have a whole folder of evidence to support my thesis that opinion sections are worthless and should be banned and now I can throw it all out and just use this headline

@Pwnallthethings the hill can just shut down now they’ve finally printed their ultimate column
@Pwnallthethings I kept waiting for the satirical reveal, but apparently this was actually serious.
@mattblaze I had to go check but yeah he's 100% serious. And woah is it a bad take. Truly incredible stuff.
@Pwnallthethings Bruce Fein is chiefly responsible for ending the Fairness Doctrine. There's a lot to dislike about this guy. I wonder if the Kremlin cut him a nice check.

@bruce @Pwnallthethings

Checked him out on wikipedia.

Leonard Leo is another one of those radical conservatives working in the background to abolish democracies guard rails.

Abolishing the fairness doctrine is one of the major reasons there is currently a Fox 'News'.

Or is it Fox Propaganda

Bruce Fein - Wikipedia

@antipode77 @Pwnallthethings Just to be clear, the Fairness Doctrine did not apply directly to Fox News as it was not broadcast media. The death of it did, however, enable the spread of right wing disinformation on AM radio, which in turn developed an audience for Fox News.
@Pwnallthethings @mattblaze I was hoping the essay would at least give some rationale other than believing Putin's original propaganda, but no, it was completely vacuous.
@Pwnallthethings amazing they just straight up publish pieces written by Heritage / Breitbart members and pass it off right under The Hill logo like it’s no biggie
@Pwnallthethings
Must be AI generated. No Human would be that dumb and still know how to spell.
@Pwnallthethings @douglascodes Well, perhaps A generated. No evidence for the I detected.
@Pwnallthethings that's an incredibly bad take 🤦‍♂️

@Pwnallthethings

Just so no one else has to do the "click on the shitty take to see who wrote it" dance, the author is Bruce Fein, a Washington Times contributor* who gutted the Fairness doctrine after Reagan appointed him as counsel to the FCC and continues to attack it 40 years later, and has been a paid advocate denying the Armenian genocide.

* For some reason The Nation has also published him three times since 2019.

@linuxandyarn @Pwnallthethings i just don't understand how these things get published.
@Pwnallthethings The Hill Opinion page is where braincells go to die.
I had to put "HillOpinion" on my birdsite mute list years ago for my sanity.
@Pwnallthethings the stupid never stops with these right wing radicals.
@Pwnallthethings what a piece of shit. Russian conquest is literally the reason FOR NATO! Why not give Putin a foot rub and Poland while we are at it?
@Pwnallthethings Let's play "spot the Russian agent!"
@Pwnallthethings
Or, now hear me out cause I know I sound crazy, we could tax the top 1% a modest amount and fully fund Ukraine and not hardly notice.
@Pwnallthethings the writer may be one step removed from walking out naked in order not to soil his underwear.
@Pwnallthethings This is the most "The Hill" take possible
@Pwnallthethings ...and maybe hand Alaska back to its previous owners... as a sweetener.
@Pwnallthethings is that a dumb take, or a Russian mouthpiece?
@Pwnallthethings
I especially like how the article uses a photo of Lloyd Austin as if it was he who wrote the tripe.
@Pwnallthethings The Hill is great at clickbait. Putin has huge influence over right wing Republicans all of whom don’t understand how international trade works and want the US to be a hermit country. That’s where this story likely comes from. Ironicly, most Republicans want more US intervention in Ukraine, not less.
@Pwnallthethings
Oh, a Reaganite giving us a brainfart for consideration!
@Pwnallthethings Glad to see your warning before I smelled it, and even gladder you warned me before I stepped in it.
@Pwnallthethings not dumb if you’re a fascist…
@Pwnallthethings To believe this one would have to choose which of the several lies told by Putin to explain his invasion and ignore twenty years of speeches lamenting the loss of the Soviet empire which he’s trying to recreate. Seriously bad bet, and not for any student of history.
@Pwnallthethings holy fuckballs, he’s literally being paid in rubles isn’t he
@Pwnallthethings I stopped reading opinions a long time ago. They all try to one up the others by being the “hot take” and f the day. And it’s usually just drunk uncle level rambling.
@Pwnallthethings
I have to say that Bruce Fein is an idiot to believe that any good would come from America withdrawing from NATO. That had to be the dumbest national security op-ed I’ve seen in years. Did Putin pay that guy to push his propaganda?
@Pwnallthethings Bruce Fein sounds like an idiot
@Pwnallthethings
I thought for sure it must be April Fools..

@Pwnallthethings

Read the article and the logic is quite flawed.

👇USA provoke Russian attack on Ukraine.
👇Nato is an existential threat to Russia.
👇Nato 'encircled' Russia. Ever looked at a map Sir ?
🖕Russia is a paper tiger as it performed so bad during the war.
👉Russia is no military threat to Nato.
👇Witdrawal would save money. Beancounters don't value imponderables.

It would also begin a desperately needed challenge to an imperial presidency.

Tada the clincher. Keep Democrats in check.

@Pwnallthethings no worries then cause we have already seen congress doesn't listen to scientists
@Pwnallthethings
Dumb mericans in office!
@Pwnallthethings I suppose many people will lose their marbles eventually, and maybe this is Fein's time. Thought he's always had somewhat top-gear ideas, such as advocating the impeachment of every president since Reagan (who he worked for). He might be a brilliant legal mind, but his foreign policy acumen seems to be crap. He seems to understand little about Russia.
@Pwnallthethings FOX will run with this.Putin will die laughing. ✌️
@Pwnallthethings What a delightfully couched piece of propaganda! "If NATO isn't a threat, everything will be fine!" No mention of NGW, or how it is mostly their conventional forces that are failing the Federation's goals. Nor does he address how in Putin's eyes, Ukraine has no right to exist. Truly astounding.
@Pwnallthethings
This isn’t really an article about Ukraine. It’s an outrage piece to drive clicks for the author. He likely doesn’t believe what he writes. Outrage drives engagement. We need to recognize and not get sucked in.
@Pwnallthethings “Russia’s industrial-scale war crimes have steeled the Ukrainian people against any concessions.”
But sure, we should help Russia “save face” by giving them more than what they bargained for. A very unserious opinion written by a three-toddlers-in-a-trench-coat of a person.
@Pwnallthethings My god, the density is so high we may all collapse into a singularity.
@Pwnallthethings Let me see if I've got this guy's reasoning: Russia is doing terrible at invading because they're a paper tiger, so to make them feel safe the USA should withdraw from NATO so everyone else Russia wants to invade is vulnerable and that will mean Russia feels safe and won't invade?
Is this dude on the take from Putin, or just a complete moron?
