The Worm Ouroboros changes direction after the first chapter or so (first 1 - 2 chapters are very clunky)
And it is never a very easy read, so I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone
But I think it is very strange in a good way
Still, maybe I should have left it out and put in #Slaughterhouse5

@CactusHaiku I read a lot of fantasy in my youth, just about all the classics, but couldn't quite get into Eddison. Or Lord Dunsany.

Yeah. I haven’t learned to love Dunsany either.
It’s strange with the early pre-Tolkien fantasy writers (also early horror / gothic writers), you can read one book and it will seem incredibly modern and then another book by the same author, or even another part of the same book will be painfully clunky.
I do like reading the books from the early days when the genres were still evolving because you get these really strikingly unusual bits in them.
@CactusHaiku Yes, and you also see some of the definitive influences on more recent SF/Fantasy authors.
