"light rail" implies a much more sinister "dark rail"
@jannuary
That would be personified by Blaine the Mono. The Wastelands (book III of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower)
@jannuary Don't overlook the notorious "full fat rail"
@jannuary Then what's the third rail?
@jannuary where they raze the poor neighborhoods near the rich neighborhoods, build beautiful stations and get plum easement rights to land they can't purchase, but the money for the trains and hiring rail staff mysteriously never appears, and 5-10 years later the stations get "flipped" into luxury condominiums and the land zoned for track gets rented out for natural gas lines by a different company the developer owns
@jannuary it gets worse. Subway implies there’s a Domway somewhere.

@jannuary well. There’s the corporate-controlled US freight rail system. Profits uber alles.

🤷🏼‍♂️

#heavyrail

@jannuary i will not ride the dark rail, i shall not be tempted
@exiliaex @jannuary

Assuming similar naming conventions to the darknet, dark rail would be rail stations which can only be accessed if you have a special key or authorization, one which isn't publicly available, and connecting you to sites which are hidden to the casual observer.

There are secret places which can only be accessed through the Dark Rail, through paths which are hidden from the casual observer. What occurs in these obscure locations? No one who knows is saying.

After all, one can only acquire forbidden knowledge for themselves. To pass it on to one who is not ready can only lead to rejection and pain.
@Sovereign_Beast @exiliaex @jannuary light rail should be for the Overland services, wholesome and ordered. Dark rail should be for the Underground, chaotic, eldritch and degenerate.
I'm imagining an entire mythos around this somewhat akin to the brilliant Neverwhere by Gaiman.

Also Light Rail and Dark Rail = The Two Genders
@jannuary Meanwhile, nobody ever talks about who gets the left of way at an intersection..
