Yesterday I posted a petition to demand Congress pass permanent protections for DACA recipients.

Someone responded that DACA recipients should be deported and "come legally." When I pointed out that by definition DACA recipients were children and had no choice, he responded that it wasn't his problem.

This cruelty will destroy our nation. Today, if you're grateful for safe residence, please speak up for DACA recipients & demand justice for them. Thank you.

We need a pathway to citizenship now!

@QasimRashid we are nation of immigrants…frustrating that we so often choose to ignore that.
@elnorte620 @QasimRashid actually a nation of colonialist usurpers and enslavers. The violence is inherent in everything USAian.
@QasimRashid they should be citizens. It's ridiculous that after 20 years living here they're not.

@QasimRashid

The same sentiment used to justify turning away Jewish refugees before and during WW2.

"...not my problem!" - racist scum

@QasimRashid Absolutely signed! DACA recipients need justice now.
@QasimRashid Many don’t know that DACA recipients have no path to citizenship.

@schfinkes @QasimRashid they should.

Most don't realiy that members of the USA military were deported after loyally and faithfully serving. Thanks to #conservatism

@patricklee @QasimRashid They should, but did any of their “news” stations carry it? They have severe “tunnel vision,” only believing what they’re fed.
@QasimRashid Just signed. Was it this platform or have you in general been getting this type of response to your posts? I never noticed this negativity when I followed you on the Birdsite.
@jrrobinson Thanks for signing. Was a different platform but to be sure, the negativity on the bird site was likely the worst—including death threats aplenty.
@[email protected] residents deserve citizenship. My grandfather emigrated to the US in the 1880s, served in the USN during Pacific wars but never obtained citizenship. In 1940, had to register as a citizen of the enemy foreign country! After 50 years of living in the US and serving in the US military, he was considered "a citizen of an enemy nation." BTW, during in USN service in the late 1880's, his ship rescued another US ship that had "Cadet John J. LeJeune" aboard.
@QasimRashid Ugh, I'm sorry about his response. Thanks for posting the petition, I just signed it.
@QasimRashid That is people listening to the Red MAGA Cult, and not actually LEARNING what the issues are. I hope your petition does well. Kids deserve better.
@QasimRashid moral bankruptcy, intellectual bankruptcy, and immense arrogance have been the key weakness in this society in which propagandists have unsurprisingly flourished.
@QasimRashid We have a large percentage of our current population that has serious sociopathic thinking! The question is, what do we do about it??
@QasimRashid the folks who say that crap often don't know even the first thing that "come legally" means, or that it is impossible for most people. It's so frustrating.
@QasimRashid That person is in a very vocal minority. Most of us know that unless we are full blood Native American we all descended from immigrants.
@QasimRashid How much you wanna bet he is not Native American or African American and therefore here “illegally” as well? The cruelty and audacity will never cease to amaze me 🤯
@QasimRashid For every "come here legally" argument, I wish we had a relatable way to show how racist and difficult that is based on country, how hard it is for ppl to get here, what food would cost without migrant workers and most importantly why are the workers punished and not the businesses that would not exist without underpaying workers and not paying employment taxes and benefits for those same workers

@QasimRashid the USA was founded on colonial genocide, displacement, enslavement and indentured servitude.

The violence is inherent in the culture and all US systems must be completely dismantled and returned to indigenous control.

@QasimRashid Signed. I have a coworker who is a DACA recipient. He damn well deserves to stay and have a whack at citizenship!
@QasimRashid Man’s inhumanity to man is in our DNA. It’s likely not going to change. As our planet becomes more stuffed with people, this will be more evident as resources dwindle. Wish I saw it differently.
