I created this regional instance to have a "local, but federated" experience. When I open up the local feed, I see stuff that is (mostly) relevant to the area that I live in, but my personal feed and the wider federated feed has all of the connections that I don't want to be without.
Local means a lot of things, but to me, a big part of that is connecting with and participating in local events.
That is why I'm creating https://github.com/ngerakines/apevents.

(ActivityPub Events) apevents is a federated event platform that provides event creation and coordination across the fediverse. The vision is to support the fediverse through event creation, management, and moderation tools, emphasizing the use of the activitpub and activitystreams protocols and APIs.
The project is open source and hosted on github (for now) and still in its infancy. If you are interested in working an open source rust project that touches the fediverse and supports communities, send me a message. If you are interested in supporting this project in other ways, we are early in the planning stages for internationalization and localization and community organizing and would love your input.
Looks like a great idea. Getting events to be a first-class object in this space sounds fun. Sign me up to help in some unspecified way.
