Doing a deep dive today into #feminist approaches to monitoring, evaluation and learning #MEL, and associated #responsibledata practices. I'll share some highlights:
“Feminist evaluation draws on the feminist research epistemology, which is about knowledge—and calls to attention who can create and produce knowledge and under what circumstances.”

This paper on #responsibledata governance for #MERL in the African context has some fantastic process tips: https://merltech.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Responsible-Data-Governance-for-ME_part-2.pdf
Thanks to @AnCluanach for pointing me towards FRIDA's newly-published strategic MEL framework – strong emphasis on how change is not linear; that having to 'prove' an org's contribution to change is not helpful for anyone, let alone a movement's progress; acknowledgement that MEL processes often take resources away from the real work. https://youngfeministfund.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/English.pdf #feministMEL #MEL
@AnCluanach @zararah thank you for sharing this! Can’t describe how much this reflects my feelings about the traditional MEL process, which I find too linear, dry and patriarchal. I hate that we have to spend so much valuable time counting and describing our work in such simplistic ways. Like a factory: input xx ingredients, press enter, you get your product. I’ll be sharing this amazing example with everyone who’ll listen. LOL.
@elicitizen @zararah Yeah like of course with this tiny, project-specific budget we have a realistic chance of ending the global assault on human rights, thumbs up
@zararah I'm currently reading FRIDA's recent strategic MEL framework: https://youngfeministfund.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/English.pdf
@AnCluanach oh wow, this is so lovely! reading now - love it.
@zararah Yeah I found it really nice. I'm not sure with our governmental backdonors we could be as playful with language :( But I like where their heads/hearts are at with this.
