'Profound autism' does not exist - rather there are autistic individuals with PMLD / PIMD

I would advocate that those described as having ‘profound autism’ are actually autistic individuals WITH profound and intellectual multiple disabilities. Everyone is an individual regardless of neurotype, everyone has their own specific needs. For Autistic people with profound intellectual and multiple difficulties these needs are highly complex and may require constant high level of care and support.

@autisticrealms I've been saying this more as I learned more.
@brainpilgrim I am just checking that if i do a # search that everything from all mastodon servers comes up? I can't find a single post (other than my own) about PMLD / PIMD ? Can you verify this, I am new on here - it seems very odd?

@autisticrealms #PIMDA came up once, likewise #ProfoundAutism, once
Closest I could find.
@brainpilgrim I am more than shocked and saddened - that is a whole population of people 😠
I taught those with PMLD and PIMD for 20 years, that is what inspired my blog #languagematters

'Profound' in relation to those with PMLD / PIMD

For these children with the most complex, profound intellectual and multiple disabilities there was never a need for any words between us at all, there was just a deep understanding and a connection between us as two individuals (and lots of sensory play!).

@autisticrealms Perhaps you are needed here☯️
@brainpilgrim I have just put out a tweet on twitter, i wasn't sure how it worked here as i know this server neurodifferent is about neurodivergence so didn't know if i needed to join another server to connect with those talking about #PMLD, #PIMD or whether they all join up ?

@autisticrealms That doesn't matter what server you join. You were doing well looking for hashtags.

That's how we find each other. I'm still learning 🎉

@brainpilgrim yes I didn't think I could go that wrong but equally it is bizarre considering the news is saying how many people are here.....
I guess some #actuallyautistic people are able to advocate for themselves and are joining for social reasons then may be carers / parents / teachers / charities for those with #PMLD, #PIMD will probably join on here soon too.....maybe?

Mapping the Mastodon Migration: Is It a One-Way Trip or an Each-Way Bet for Science Twitter? - Absolutely Maybe

Like many people, I opened a Mastodon account on the weekend the Musk era began on Twitter. This post picks up from…

Absolutely Maybe
@autisticrealms yes that's possible. To most this is very new.
@brainpilgrim yes it is quite exciting though. I wrote a blog about joining here - feels like I am back in late 1990s again meeting a small group of like minded people just exploring and starting out again :-)

An Autistic Experience of Social Media & Exploring Mastodon

I am writing this one month into my journey of setting up @autisticrealms, my aim is to support and develop understanding and awareness about neurodivergency, education and mental health. As a late diagnosed autistic adult, parent, and teacher I have always found real life communication and interaction 'difficult' and complex to navigate. I feel I manage it very well for short times, but I mask. Masking Prior to social media I was a prolific letter writer, I spent as much time writing letters as
