Today is #DoctorWhoDay, the 59th anniversary of the greatest show in the universe!

I can think of nothing better to say about this show and how it has affected me than to quote Steven Moffat:

“When they made this particular hero, they didn't give him a gun, they gave him a screwdriver to fix things. They didn't give him a tank or a warship or an X-wing fighter, they gave him a call box from which you can call for help. And they didn't give him a superpower or pointy ears or a heat ray, they gave him an extra heart. They gave him two hearts. And that's an extraordinary thing; there will never come a time when we don't need a hero like the Doctor.”

TARDIS Guide · A complete guide to Doctor Who

For me personally this show has been my obsession ever since I first watched it when it returned in 2005. Since then I have watched every episode that ever aired, in order. Even the missing ones (I watched reconstructions).

I’ve read many books (fiction and non-fiction), listened to amazing Big Finish audio adventures, bought toys, been to see The Doctor Who Experience and some live theatre productions. I tried to see Time Fracture but it got cancelled on me twice, once due to flooding and once because they finished it early.

I have re-watched modern who, and all it’s spin offs, more times than I can count. I can remember many episodes word for word.

I’m not saying I’m the most dedicated fan, or the most knowledgeable, this isn’t a brag but just to say that this show is my life.

Thank you to everyone involved with the show, for creating such a masterpiece, and may it continue forever and ever ❤️❤️

#DoctorWho #DoctorWhoDay

@tardis I had never seen Doctor Who or even knew it existed until the mid-1980s. Then I took a job where I was able to receive both NJ and NYC cable channels and a co-worker who knew I liked SF said, "Oh, you have to check this out!"

And so I tuned in. And soon I bought a 1st gen VCR so I could record the Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, and Peter Davidson episodes being broadcast on NJ/NY PBS.

And thus a Whovian was born. I have a 4th Doctor full-sized knitted scarf in my home office.

@tardis So many good stories. Patrick Troughton in particular holds a special spot in my heart, some fantastic story telling, using such primitive tech.

@tardis

Been watching it since I was 12: Tom Baker onwards, then later, everything that happened before. I try to live by "What would the Doctor do?"

But the TARDIS... oh that sweet old box... it's freedom personified. If it landed near me, I'd be in the doors before you could blink. I joined #SecondLife purely to have a TARDIS, and now I do, fully functional within that virtual world, console room and box unique to me.

The TARDIS was my first love, and it will always be in my heart.

@GryphonSK well said! I have a Valve Index VR headset and my “home” is inside the TARDIS 😅
@tardis What is this a chart of? All the doctors? I only recognise a few, but I am not a die-hard fan.
@WordsByJill yes it’s every person who has played the Doctor 🥰
@tardis I thought there has only been about 8 or 9 of them! Are these all the main doctors or offshoots or special eps or ??? Help a gal out. V confused!

@WordsByJill haha. There’s been 13 “official” Doctors, they are the ones that appear in actual series (or in the case of the 8th, he was just in the TV-Movie)

Then the others include the War Doctor who appeared in the 50th anniversary, the Fugitive Doctor who was introduced in the most recent series (and she pre-dates them all), and there’s Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor who we have only seen in the trailer so far but he is the new Doctor, after Tennant plays the 14th (he was also the 10th).

I can see why you’re confused 😂

@tardis Thanks for clarifying!
@WordsByJill which ones have you seen in action, which is your fave?
@tardis
That's every person who has played the Doctor apart from Rowan Atkinson. 😁
@WordsByJill @tardis it’s all the ‘known’ doctors, Hartnell being the official first one. Would love to have seen his granddaughter Susan have had her series as technically she was a time Lord too??
@WordsByJill @Shirl99 I’d love Susan to come back someday. They technically could do it, I don’t know why they haven’t. Maybe RTD has it up his sleeve…
@tardis @WordsByJill That would be cool, tho I’m guessing it would be a new actress as Susan would be 70ish now 🤔

@WordsByJill @Shirl99 well if she didn’t get killed by Daleks she could have just aged naturally and could meet the Doctor.

It would be amazing if the Doctor met up with her one last time before she dies, in some heroic feat which shows how much she has grown, then she regenerates and the newly regenerated Susan joins the Doctor in several stories, kinda like how they did with River ❤️

@tardis love that quote. Don't think I've seen it before. Thanks for sharing 😊❤️
@tardis This is the show that’s been with me all my life. When I was born, there were 2 Doctors on television, but alas, when I was old enough to watch it there were none. So I had the experience of watching, reading, listening to the entirety of Doctor Who without order, reason or sense. One moment it was a dashing man in a frock coat, the next a cricketer, the next a a silly little man with a recorder, the next Ace was all in leather with a gun.
It feels appropriate for a time travel show.
@tardis Just started watching and I know that I know nothing. Yet. 😌

@merlielle ooh where did you start? Welcome! I hope you enjoy!!

In some ways I envy you, this is the start of a great adventure in space and time ✨

@tardis Thank you! 😃 Yes, I feel that way. I started with series one, then jumped to four I think and watched some eighties episodes in between. Very...colourful. 😅 Now I'll borrow the DVDs to fill the gaps. And I'd like to thank @mewawuschel for introducing me to the Doctor. 😊
@tardis my earliest memories were the Jon Pertwee doctor and Bessie! Loved both the Bakers esp Trial of a Timelord and read many of the books as a kid. Have to admit that the Davidson and McCoy eras never pulled me, McCoy I remembered from Take Hart and that image stuck lol. I missed the 8th doc and only started at the end of the 9th’s outings.
Fav doctors for me are the 4th, 6th and 10th (14th) 😎
@tardis great quote. The Doctors I encountered first (Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Jon Pertwee) all seemed clever and kind, and they got top go exciting places and helped put things right, most of the time.
@tardis #DoctorWho has been a constant companion through my life. It’s been there since l recall fleeting images on TV from The Tenth Planet in 1966 when I was four. I wouldn’t be a writer without this programme’s influence, wouldn’t have met the friends I have, wouldn’t have married the husband I live with (although Star Trek had a lot to do with that too, fair dos). Huge influence. Still watching.
