The Secret of the Abandoned Girard Theatre

The formerly grand Girard Theatre in Philadelphia was hidden away for half a century above the drop tile of a neighborhood supermarket.

@AbandonedAmerica I feel like I went there in Skyrim...
@AbandonedAmerica
Thank you for the love and detail you are adding to the image captions 😍
@Lleites you bet, glad they're helpful! πŸ₯°
@AbandonedAmerica Hooray, first time I saw you on Mastodon! I read your newsletter tonight and was so interested in your experience with that beautiful home that was just left to destruction.
@cobalt thanks so much! I'm really sad about Twitter but thankful for a new community. And that mansion was amazing. Wish I could have enjoyed it more. That water sound in it was so creepy 😬
@AbandonedAmerica paging @SpectralCodex this is up your alley I guess!
@travelfish @AbandonedAmerica Yeah, that's a grimy one alright! Too bad it's gone...
@AbandonedAmerica I remember reading this one before; ever since it's on my mind a lot. The idea that something so beautiful was hiding just out of sight while people go about their day right beside it is so fascinating (and tragic) It was nice to reread this and look at the photos again.
@MakioKuta thank you. I like thinking about it too. It is a nice reminder that we miss a lot of the magic in the world because of the mundane and temporary constructs that surround us
@AbandonedAmerica
It's really something to see this kind of stuff. Fascinating how it just gets forgotten.
@Old_salt forgotten places are my favorite places ❀️
@AbandonedAmerica
I have abandoned places book marked on my YouTube account. Watching things from abandoned elevators to military bases and beyond. Just amazing stuff.

@AbandonedAmerica Timely and applicable to other recent and ongoing decimations:
"But these things can impede demolition: if you want to tear a place down, it's important to move quickly, before people have a chance to even discover what they're losing or think too much about it."

Thank you for coming over to #Mastodon!

@dripsandcastle thanks so much, and yeah, sadly I can see where that is applicable. Big sigh for the Twitter I once enjoyed
