Getting a bit nippier in Boston, and childcare for a few hours meant some time for a good run and great talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist! Unfortunately image upload seems broken right now so I can't share pictures from the run 😢.

Also at @andresmh's suggestion now I've got a youtube playlist you can follow! I only will put talks on after I listen to them, since some that I put in my queue turn out to be terrible 😁. It's at: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5FQGISvWBK3gNFqx2eboI8etItUC2MFW (1/6)

First up was an amazing #HarvardMedicalSchool Center for #Bioethics panel on ethical challenges in global #surgery with Bethany Hedt-Gauthier, Rashi Jhunjhunwala, Michelle Joseph, and John Meara. Is it #ethical for surgeons to fly into developing countries for a week, help with surgeries, and then leave? How should surgeons going to those regions involve local medical personnel in their research, and #coauthoring papers? Next was an interesting talk by Marc Toussaint at #MIT on physical reasoning and manipulation for #robots. There are some nice reframings here on how to model objects, and the incorporation of #NeRFs into #robotics is compelling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiDvfAxTPFA&list=PL5FQGISvWBK3gNFqx2eboI8etItUC2MFW&index=5 (3/6)

Next was a fantastic pair of talks on social science #experimentation in #healthcare with Hengchen Dai and Jake Bowers at #MITIDE. Both talks try to use text messaging to encourage COVID-19 #vaccinations, to little effect. Bowers's talk, however, goes beyond the experimental effects and gets into how to ethically engage different stakeholders in study design. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4UorcUHALI&list=PL5FQGISvWBK3gNFqx2eboI8etItUC2MFW&index=4 (4/6)

Next was a great panel on organizational #ethics in #healthcare at the #UniversityOfColorado Center for #Bioethics and Humanities with Anita Katharina Wagner, Susan Reeves, Melissa Bottrell, and Matthew Wynia. #Hospitals and some #insurers have developed robust organizational ethics groups and processes, and the examples presented here are far beyond what we see in #tech and other businesses - we need to learn from their example. Last was a nice short talk at #CogSci by Marcel Montrey on how ingroup-biased copying promotes cultural #diversity and #complexity. This talk deftly combines experimental work demonstrating this phenomenon, then follows up with modeling to hypothesize mechanisms. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CFuZfrzaFs&list=PL5FQGISvWBK3gNFqx2eboI8etItUC2MFW&index=1 (6/6)
