In the interests of connecting with people here, I thought I'd do some more #introduction-ing, with some hashtags and a bit more on various cool things I have done or plan to do!

I'm gonna use the "content warning" / metadata field on these so as not to hog people's timeline space.

#FediTips: in Tusky or the web view (& maybe other apps?), there's a little "eye" icon which will "unwrap" _all_ the content wrappers for one thread, in one go.

(you can also set an overall pref for that)

#SingleBass is my main songwriting channel: songs + voice + solo electric bass guitar.

Back in the day, I did a lot of live gigging - inc Glastonbury Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe, the old Marquee, a few tours, etc.

In recent years, I've not done so much live, but I'm slowly working my way through recording all the songs:

Songs + voice + solo electric bass guitar. "golden and delicate voice" "solid songwriting talent" "manages to make the bass fill the space most people need a band for."

I'm brewing a covid-careful, beginner-friendly classical string orchestra for #Nottingham, where I live.

I'm pretty sure there are musicians missing out at the moment from lack of covid precautions at events.

I grew up playing classical music, so this is kind of a "back to my roots" :-)

Nottingham Beginner-Friendly String Orchestra

Seeking interested players! Violin, viola, cello, double bass. Covid-careful. No minimum musical standard. Customised parts for all levels.

I have a blog, on a mix of topics - basically anything I get interested in. I don't post very often, although in theory I would like that to change :-)

Among other kinds of #writing, I enjoy explaining geeky stuff so that not-so-techie people can understand it :-)

Here's a thing I wrote to explain how you can use a CO2 monitor to assess air quality, and how that relates to covid safety:

Using a carbon dioxide monitor to measure air freshness

Explanation of an ingenious thing: how you can use a CO2 monitor to check the air-freshness in a room, to guide your covid risk reduction.

As well as being a writer and musician myself, I'm fascinated with creative processes in general. I wrote a zine called "Creativity is for everyone", and sometimes I run online sessions with the theme of "Unstick your creativity".

Here's a bit about the zine:

I'm very interested in the emotional/cognitive difficulties for humans of taking in & emotionally accepting the scale and nature of climate change. Why is that so hard for us to think about, and what can make it possible? I want to write more about this in future.

And I'm enthusiastic about renewable energy, active travel and public transport.

I'm on the side of let's _not_ catch covid, and I have had many a rant over the last couple of years about atrocious misinformation propagated by people in positions of power. Done my best to share helpful facts where I could. #CovidIsAirborne!

Vexingly, however, it did get to our household last month. Blogged about that the other day.

Covid-related uncertainty

Thoughts on the experience of having covid, and the uncertainty of making a full recovery.  Plus some science geekery on immune systems and testing.

In the UK, education is legally compulsory for young people - but it doesn't have to be in a school.

"#HomeEducation" can be kind of a misleading name, inasmuch as a lot of it takes place out and about :-)

I've written quite a bit about how non-school education works in principle, & how it can be hindered by bad laws. See e.g.

To trust, or not to trust

A fundamental problem with inspection of families doing elective home-based education: whether or not to believe the parents.

#CleanLanguage (originated by David Grove) is a way of asking questions without accidentally muddling your own presuppositions into the other person's ideas & metaphors. Applications include teamwork/collaboration, healing, planning, all kinds of #communication.

#SystemicModelling (developed by Caitlin Walker) is a way of pooling ideas so everyone can learn.

I'm on a learning curve with these methods: not a complete beginner, not an expert :-)

Lived in NL from the age of 6 to the age of 9.

Voor ongeveer 2 jaar was ik op de Montessori school in Leiden. Toen kwamen we terug naar Engeland, en m'n Nederlands is dus een beetje roestig :-)

I've been out as bi since 1995, and quite a few of my friends are people I met through bi/queer community stuff.

I think a lot about bi erasure, what it takes to come out as bi, how bi people are represented in media, and so on.

Sometimes I run little online gatherings for the #Nottingham bi women (trans-friendly, typically an hour on Zoom on a weekday evening).

In 2021, I collaborated with John from the London Bisexual Group & Libby from Biscuit, paid by the LGBT Consortium, to research why bi groups were getting so little of the nominally "LGBT" funding.

We actually kind of _knew_ why before we started! and a lot of the same dynamics probably apply to other small volunteer-run groups too. But we talked to people, documented the ins & outs of it, and made recommendations.

Back in the 1990s when I first came out as bi, Pride would always have stalls selling gay & lesbian-themed merch, & hardly ever anything for the bi people. I started designing bi badges to fill the gap, & this labour of love grew to become the "#IdentityBadges".

Themes include #bisexual, #queer, #trans, #polyam, #kink/#bdsm.

#Asexual Pride & #Pansexual Pride badges coming soon (designed & made, but not yet added to the catalogue page!)

"Identity" badges (a.k.a. buttons)

Button badges for sale, with logos and words, e.g. Assume nothing, Normal rules do not apply, No I'm bisexual you're confused, queer babe, etc.etc.

BiCon is the UK bi conference/convention. From 1995 to 2005, I went almost every year, ran workshop sessions, was on the organising team one time.

Then I became disillusioned with its institutional inertia, & decided to limit my time & energy investment in it.

In 2020, I dipped back in & coordinated BiCon's anti-racism review, & did the write-up of it:

I read a lot! I have a Twitter account (https://twitter.com/booktrail) which is/was only for tiny book reviews. I'm not sure at the moment what I'm gonna do with that and whether I'll set up an equivalent here.

I mostly like
- science fiction
- detective stories
- young adult / coming-of-age books
- children's books
- process-geekery books, like how to be on a good team or have a good day or run effective meetings, and that kind of thing.

Charting the book trail of Jennifer @UnchartedWorlds. What I've been reading and thought was worth a mention.

A small "claim to fame" is that I was a beta-reader for the book #RevoltingProstitutes, by Juno Mac and Molly Smith. There's an acknowledgement in the back of it which I treasure, which says that I "sharpened and clarified" their arguments! How lovely is that.

I recommend it as a useful book if you're interested in that area:

Verso

Verso Books is the largest independent, radical publishing house in the English-speaking world.

And there are other things I'm interested in too! But that's a lot of the main categories which I've ever written about online :-)
@unchartedworlds I also read a lot and occationally post book reviews. Science/Scifi/Fantasy/Anything With Strong Female Characters
