W/all the twitter vs Mastodon toots circulating, these stanzas keep running thru my mind. It’s been a touchstone for me since I was a teen:

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Desiderata: Original Text

Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story...

Cont.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

@Lunachick i love this particular part of the desiderata… used to carry it in my wallet back in the days when it was weird to have your own email address.
@kbg I discovered Desiderata in late high school (pre-internet) when I was having a rough time. I had a poster in my college dorm room. Since then the lines have always seemed to bubble up in my mind just when I need them.
It’s nice to know someone else who holds those words close.
