Well, my running buddy has cancelled on me, it's grey & grim & soggy out, and my knee and shin are both moaning at me to not bother... but I'm still doing my fourth #parkrun today. Why? Because none of those things are worse than missing out on the mental health benefits, the sense of pride and achievement, and the feeling of community that comes with running around a park with 400 other people. I'll #parklimp alone and soaking wet through if I have to! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿƒ
@vhCoder The ebst thing is you start to make friends with people you'll only see at parkrun... and then you get more parkrun buddies who can run and chat parts of the route with you (or join you for coffee afterwards). Never alone ๐Ÿ˜Ž
@Haybop86 I've only done 4 runs now so I haven't got any run buddies that I only know from there, but hopefully that will come with time. There's still a good feeling of community in the air, I like it.
I can't chat while I'm running though ๐Ÿฅต too busy focusing on getting oxygen in my lungs and putting one foot in front of the other! Plus I need earphones in to get my distance and average pace callouts (and my motivational tunes).
@vhCoder how did it go? The harder it is to get out the door, the better the sense of achievement for doing it๐Ÿ’ช I ran with DS2 today and it is the first time I struggled to keep with him๐Ÿ˜ฑ #parkrun #ParkrunFamily
@Fran_Allen Well, I got round without stopping, but I was limping by the end ๐Ÿ˜– my knee is not happy, even with a big brace on it, no idea what I've done but it was clearly too soon to try running on it again. Slowest 5k time for a while, but still under 30 minutes so I guess that's something.
Yeah I was proud of myself for going at all, but especially so for gritting my teeth and finishing when I could have given up a few times.
DS2?
@vhCoder Absolutely, itโ€™s a social thing as much as anything. If it was just about getting fit Iโ€™d run in the woods on my own, which I also like incidentally
@timsl @vhCoder after the shutdown the junior parkruns returned a couple of months before the 5K parkruns and it made me realise that I valued standing around drinking coffee and chatting about running with like minded people more than necessarily racing the parkrun each week.
@vhCoder Well Done! parkrun is such a wonderful thing and always people to chat to
@vhCoder can relate! Well done
@LeonardFortune Thanks, my knee absolutely hates me now though! Beginning to wonder if I've got a small stress fracture at the top of my tib or fib ๐Ÿซค
@vhCoder Iโ€™m with you, we ran the Chilton Fields Parkrun yesterday. It was almost like a 5k wolf run, wet, muddy and cold. My right foot slipped sideways and aggravated a strain and I finished about 6th from last in a field of 70 runners. But I wouldnโ€™t have missed it lol ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ
@digitalstu Great effort to get to the end regardless, I was also gritting my teeth a bit as I approached the finish line! My knee and I are no longer on speaking terms ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
