Tell me about something that you read and loved recently? Any genre, any length, I'm happy to hear about pro-published fiction, fanfic, and non fiction
@Forestofglory The last book I read was Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban. It was written in the 1970s but hasn't aged at all. It's a bit of a cult classic, although I had not heard of it before I read it. It's set in a post-apocalyptic future version of Kent, UK, where humanity's survivors have regressed to an Iron Age level of technology. They are dimly aware of the vanished civilization that preceded them, and yearn to rebuild it.

@Forestofglory This coming of age story follows Riddley Walker as he travels around his land and learns it's secrets. Much of the humour/interest of the book comes from Riddley misconstruing artefacts and scraps of knowledge that have survived from our time into theirs.
2/3
@Forestofglory The book is written in a phonetic vernacular debased version of English, to reflect the speech of the times. It's tough to understand in places, but adds a lot to the atmosphere, and experience of reading this book. Recommended! #RiddleyWalker 3/3
