Is there a server or community for people who have experienced #workplacetrauma? 6 months ago, I finally left my shitty retail management job, an abusive work environment I stayed in for 5 years. I'm sure everyone I know IRL is tired of hearing about it, but I don't have a therapist and don't know how to work through all these experiences that still hurt. I worry about my friends that still work there, too.

Talking and commiserating with others who have been through bad job experiences is cathartic and helpful to me. I can never get enough of "tales from retail", "malicious compliance", and "fuck you I quit" stories, so if anyone would like to share theirs with me, please do!

@saaski I don't have anything to contribute, blessed away from it by dumb luck I guess. I just wanted to extend a gesture to let you know someone read your post and wishes better things in your future.
@maphew You are so kind, thank you 😭❤️

@saaski
Everything from not going back after a week to working my redundancy notice period after 17 years.

In the latter case I spent the last few weeks finding things to chuck away knowing someone else would miss them, I took home most of my stationery drawer.

Had to give up a company car after another redundancy - cried & swore all the way at the guy who had to take me home.

I still find myself thinking about some of the nastier aspects, but it's best just to move on.

@Bluemoonjules @Bluemoonjules I'm a stationery addict, so I'm really happy to hear that you took your drawer 😄 It sucks that you had to give up the car, but I hope life and work has been better to you since then.

I struggle with the memories that come back and I'm not sure how to move on, but you're right, and it's nice to be reminded I'm not alone. Thank you ☺️

@saaski I know, it is hard but best for your own peace of mind. The only thing I think you can take from it is what you don't want in a job next time, and maybe join a union!
@Bluemoonjules @Bluemoonjules Thank you for all the kind words ☺️ Healing is a slow process, but I'm much happier at my new job, and it's unionized! 😄
@saaski I had a months long stint in retail and the work environment was awful. I tried to improve things in the dept and instead of credit, I was punished and my manager started lying to me, I switched departments completely but when management is problematic from the top down, the ripple effects ... Things were so backwards and counterintuitive and inefficient because someone made arbitrary decisions without taking things into consideration.
