Never forget, you’re not STUCK in traffic. You ARE traffic.

But you can choose not to be. At least not all the time. #walking #biking #shorttrips #publictransit #cities #mobility #transportation #urbanplanning #traffic #congestion #cityplanning #publictransport

@BrentToderian Remember: I’m not traffic with you. You’re traffic with me!
@BrentToderian Ironic bumper stickers needed.
@BrentToderian Interestingly, that works for why Mastodon is slow today too: You are not experiencing server-limiting performance issues, you _are_ server-limiting performance issues.
@BrentToderian This is Railroad-marketing. Big applause for that.
@BrentToderian I've given up having a car back in 2010 just before moving to Cork (my last car in Brazil ran on ethanol). No easy being car-less in Ireland mind you. But chose to live as close to the city centre as I could afford. Walk everywhere I can - smoke stinking clothes and hellish junctions to cross included. 😒 But I'll never own a car again if I can help it.
@BrentToderian you have no choice to be traffic, when they are on strike.

@emmalovelace @BrentToderian

Actually, you can #SupportStrikers by staying home.

@ducker @BrentToderian sorry boss, can't make it in today, up the union!

I still get paid right?

@BrentToderian LOVE love LOVE finding my local follows on Mastodon. Great that you are here, Brent! #climate #planning #yvr
@BrentToderian Public transport is often stuck in traffic
@MerylORourke @BrentToderian I can attest after spending 90 mins on a bus timetabled to do its entire route in 45
@BrentToderian - It's more complex than that. There are only a few mega-cities (NYC & SF) where there is a balance of residents & jobs AND a smallish geographical footprint. NYC & SF are ideal cases to go car-free, but they are exceptions. There are many more situations like LA County where business centers and housing are FAR apart. A true solution for LA County would scale nationally.
I'm an advocate for building brand new planned cities, and incentivizing businesses and worker to relocate.

@BrentToderian For those who say they can't ride a bike: I ride an average of 8 km (5 miles) each way with an average elevation gain of 80 m (260 ft), year-round. I'm 53, and just started 10 years ago.

There are cities where bike commuting is impractical or even dangerous, but you'd be surprised how easy it is in an average city when you get used to it.

I love the easy Vancouver winters after riding in Edmonton for 8 years. Bad weather just means you get better gear!

@BrentToderian People in many circumstances don't have alternatives to using cars
or vans, including people with certain physical disabilities, families with young children and/or frail elderly members, and people dealing with serious medical conditions or recovering from surgery.
@BrentToderian Every so often I check if I can take public transportation to work. This month my 11km trek to would take 1.5hrs on the bus. About the same as walking. Chicken or the egg? The routes don’t exist because people don’t take the bus people can’t take the bus or cycle because the routes don’t exist. I advocate for “If you build it, they will come.”
@BrentToderian Hi Brent, you could also choose to describe the images you post, thus ensuring #blind followers and readers are part of the discussion.

@BrentToderian Reminds me of an old comedian bit talking about how when one woman at a table stands up and announces she's going to the ladies room. Half the other ladies get up and leave with her. Half an hour later they return complaining about the line for the toilet...

Of course there was a line, ladies, you took it with you! 😉

Isn't if funny how we forget that for every car in our path we're complaining about there's another one in the rear view thinking the same about us?
