SPECIAL COUNSEL JACK SMITH, a war crimes prosecutor who formerly headed the Public Integrity Section at DOJ. He oversaw an Espionage Act prosecution that ended in a conviction while at DOJ in 2015.

@chrisgeidner Why do you suppose Garland took this route? It doesn't seem like it will really shield him from criticism from the right. What am I missing?
