The demo of #Galactica, #Meta's version of #FakeScience as a service, has been taken down, but that doesn't make a difference for the lesson that #science and #society will have to learn: we cannot trust anything just because it looks scientific, just because it uses scientific jargon in a superficially correct way.

The default for any claim or story is #NoTrust. #Trust needs to be earned through evidence and provenance.

The challenge for #ComputationalScience: present our results in a way that generates trust. In spite of software being buggy (as everybody knows and accepts). In spite of all of us relying on brittle infrastructure (reminder: https://xkcd.com/2347/). In spite of #ComputationalModels becoming too complex for any individual to understand (even before machine learning).
