Mastodon is not a Twitter replacement. It's not trying to be. Any comparison is flawed if you don't start with that fact.

There's no algorithm here. Clicking favorite is just a way to show the person who wrote it that you liked it. It doesn't help to promote it. Boosting is the only way to promote someone's content.

This place runs on it's users.

So relax. Discover this great place for yourself. If you don't understand something don't be afraid to ask. Give it time.

You'll love it.

@Mrfunkedude oh, thanks. That is interesting. Is there / could there be anyway to turn on an algorithm if you'd like one? That would be cool.
@gwalms @Mrfunkedude What kind of algorithm? An algorithm is just a computer program. There's no magical 'algorithm' that gives you what you want. What would you want this magical algorithm to do?
@Mrfunkedude

actually the primary reason for marking a toot as a favorite is so that you can find it later, including after the servers' regular cleaning out of old toots to make room on the box in their mom's basement.
@Mrfunkedude I like to think this is how Twitter should have been.
@Mrfunkedude or think of it just like the way we used to use Twitter before the algorithm crap
@Mrfunkedude I am old enough to remember Twitter when it was pre-algorithm and you saw everything posted by people you followed. What goes around, comes around.
@ceemage
Old enough to remember when Twitter was just SMS
@Mrfunkedude
@bnystrom @Mrfunkedude Now that *is* old, grandpaw. <grin>
