How the Russian Air Force Failed in Ukraine | Geopolitics Decanted by Silverado

Why has Russia been unable to suppress Ukrainian air defenses? What is the true state of its missile stockpiles and production rates? Is the F-16 the best aircraft to provide to Ukraine to replace its old Soviet fighter jets? How can the West disrupt the chips supplies for the Russian military? Dmitri Alperovitch talks to Justin Brock and Dr. Jack Watling from Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) about their findings from the recent trip to Ukraine

@dmitri Great to see you here. We don’t know what is going to happen with Twitter.
@dmitri It was a really great episode! I had to send it out to a bunch of people with the highest recommendations.
Looking forward to the next one.
@dmitri Just one hair to split: the Stugna-P is not a wire-guided ATGM, as was asserted. It is laser-beam guided. (I know I’m nitpicking).

@dmitri This was by far the most well-informed and high quality review of military operations in Ukraine than anything else I’ve encountered through various Twitter discussions, news outlets, podcasts, etc.

The depth of knowledge and analytical thoroughness of Jack and Justin’s material was evident and very, very welcome. Thanks for coordinating this episode.

@dmitri To qualify that and suppress my exuberance slightly, the other episodes in Geopolitics Decanted have also been very very good. I think the difference here is that I follow other contributors on Twitter, so the podcast content was not as 𝒏𝒆𝒘 to me as that in this latest episode.

@dmitri Great as always. I have a quibble with the #RUSI analysts take that the #VKS doesn't worry about SEAD/DEAD since #NATO doesn't prioritize air defense artillery. ADA is less important to NATO than air superiority but a quick look at NATO ADA capabilities shows more than the UKR military has available.
NATO:
>600 Patriot/SAMP/T/S300
>100 Hawk variants
>100 Skyguard/Crotale/NASAMS

RUSI seems excessively focused on UK and FR force design (for obvious reasons) for this kind of analysis.

@dmitri Well you are my First podcast I found through Mastodon. Really looking forward to listening
@johndill Hope you enjoy it!
@dmitri just listened to the latest episode. Deep level of detail is perfect. Thanks and keep it up.
@dmitri Greatly appreciate the content/insights🙏🏼
