If all xs are of the same ontological kind everything is physical or mathematical or … If everything consists of one ontological kind (but not necessarily the same kind) some things may be physical and some other things may be mathematical. The current scientific paradigm forces us to choose. Max Tegmark thinks everything (in the end) is mathematical. The base that allows (some) things to consist of more than one ontological kind permits pluralism.
@JohanJAJGamper Yes, I think that's right. Personally, I have changed my mind on things like whether the axioms are 'real' etc over the years, but I still want to say that Tegmark's idealist position is not correct. I think Searle's position on not multiplying realms and entities beyond necessity is a good starting point.
