You may want to use an app called "debirdify" https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/
(it's down at this very moment), that finds Twitter users on Mastodon, they may not be many for now, but it's a start.
Also, you can follow people with your similar interests searching topics by #, and then you can also have a look at who people follows. I am following BBC and some news from Ukraine, for example, so they're in my list.
