In the Chamber, we will continue with third reading debate on #BillC5, changes to the #CriminalCodeofCanada. It eliminates 20 current #mandatoryminimumsentences and extends the use of non-custodial #conditionalsentences. I plan to speak to the bill this week. We are expecting to vote this week - but in the #senateofcanada, expectations are sometimes confounded. #SenCA #cdnpoli
We will also conclude (I expect) third reading debate of #BillC31, which provides rent relief for low-income Canadians, and extends some dental benefits to Canadian children. We need to get this one passed in a timely manner, so the #CRA (aka the #CanadaRevenueAgency) has the lead time it needs to distribute the funds. #senateofcanada #SenCa #cdnpoli
Mudhooks 🇨🇦@Paulatics Low-income seniors need at least basic dental and vision provisions. I had to put off a visit to an odontologist because I couldn’t afford even the cost of the evaluation for an ongoing problem.
Ontario does have a program for low-income seniors but it’s basic, doesn’t cover many things and you don’t have a choice where you can get the work done.
@Paulatics Re: eyecare I have a condition that requires soecial lenses that cost $$$$. Being able to buy cheap frames is one thing. $1000+ for lenses is just not possible.
Sam Vekemans@Paulatics I do love the idea behind it, and am thrilled that it's getting past, but I'm one Canadian who does qualify but I will NOT be applying for it. Reason why is the CERB clawback, I fear that if I go through the trouble of applying and getting it, it will be clawed back in a couple years.
I'll need to check my records, but I think that you are already on the list for supporting Universal Basic Income/ Guaranteed Livable Income, am I correct?
