The #Netflix #kdrama entitled, #UnderTheQueensUmbrella ( #슈룹 ) is giving me the vibes that I am reading an epic historical novel. I love it.
Something like this:
— Book 1: The Crown Prince
— Book 2: The Rebellion
— Book 3: The New King
I hope they'll keep the current pacing. Though, I am not that hopeful because Korean dramas tend to rush things or resolve all the sub-plots from episodes 13-16. Sequels are not a thing in K-dramas. T_T
And let's not forget, the Queen is the past life of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. LOL.
@jai_oh Woot! It's not the usual Korean political royal palace drama.
For me, it's ranks with the classics #Jumong, #DongYi, and #JewelInThePalace. It focuses more on the characters and the values they believe in and learn. The politics were only a plot device instead of the main theme.
Too bad, it's only 16 episodes. I hope it's similar to the classics, 50+ episodes, 60 mintutes each. ^_^;;
@youronlyone I think this is only my second historical #kdrama. (My first one was #MrSunshine. Absolutely loved it --- the music, too.) Will make a note of those other classics.
Yeah, I'm definitely enjoying the characters' values and their beliefs. Love the back-and-forth between Kim Hye-soo and Kim Hae-sook. So fun!
It depends on what are the things you don't like in historical dramas. If it's the politics, I can say that “Under the Queen's Umbrella” focuses more on the characters, humanizing them. Politics is only a plot device, as compared to other shows wherein it's the main theme.
