Intros seem to be a thing, so hi! I'm Sheera.

I'm a #professor of #comparativeliterature and #jewishstudies at #oberlincollege.

I work on modern Hebrew and Arabic #poetry, with an interest in the intersection of lit. and political crisis and the poet as public figure. Currently completing a book on the national poets of Palestine/Israel.

I'm a mama to a delightful 3 y/o.

I post about Palestine/Israel, motherhood, Jewishness, literature, academia, teaching, and my life. Also an avid deleter.

@stalpaz Uhhh, marharbin?
@thatchcolom marhabtain!
@stalpaz
Shakrhom Lahk (?) My students told me it was just Shakhrom
@thatchcolom close! It's "shukran," but you can say "shukran laki" (the you is female) or "shukran lak" (the you is male) or "alf shukran" (a thousand thanks).
@stalpaz ohhhhh I like Alf shukran. Is it “shuck” or “shook” rahn?
@stalpaz שלום-עליכם!
(אני לא יודע העברעיש, אבֿל כּן ייִדיש!)
@misha ערב טוב! I wish I knew more than a smattering of Yiddish. I hope to study it in the coming years.
@stalpaz knowing hebrew and english gets you 70% there! just add a bit of german, russian, french, and slavik influence

@stalpaz welcome, to a possible colleague in the "can I somehow tick EVERYONE off?" club

:)

@Jradin according to feedback i've gotten from total strangers, i'm there with you!
@stalpaz It is a very elite club. You can ONLY be nominated by total strangers who instantly understand everything about your work and/or political position after reading the introductory paragraph of one article.
@stalpaz @Jradin You might be giving them a bit too much credit in the reading department.
@amv @stalpaz Okay, maybe...but they DEFINITELY saw someone they already hate saying something positive about you somewhere.
@Jradin @amv oh, in my case they just scanned for the word "Palestine"
