This is the Pink Fairy Armadillo.

They live in Argentina, have a furry bum to help them thermoregulate, and are around 3-4 inches long. It is said they can burrow through sand as fast as a fish can swim.

You're welcome.

@RussInCheshire I do believe in fairiesπŸ§šβ€β™€οΈ

> have a furry bum to help them thermoregulate

Same πŸ˜‚

@RussInCheshire This magnificent creature is listed as critically endangered. They are threatened by habitat destruction, pesticides, climate change, domestic pet predation and poaching. Criminal.
@RussInCheshire Armadillos are also the Mayan spirit animals (Aj) representing hard work, resilience, children and the home. Every 20th day is an Aj day - yesterday the most recent.
@RussInCheshire Please tell me I'm not the only one who first thought it was a novelty oven glove!?

@RussInCheshire

Maybe a controversial opinion, but...
Golden Mole > Pink Fairy Mole
Shiny little potato > furry butt!

@RussInCheshire surely that's a vole in an afghan.
@RussInCheshire would this be a suitable replacement for a cat?
Looking at those front paws, it could empty a litter tray in record time.
@RussInCheshire
Just arrived over here in the parallel universe, where Russ is the armadillo specialist. I’m ok with it, curious to find out who does week in Tory?

@RussInCheshire

You had me at furry bum! 😍

I was skeptical so googled it πŸ˜‚

@RussInCheshire the size of the feet/paws/hands... Made for sand swimming and very cute!
@RussInCheshire I love these kinds of Now I know more than I used to about an interesting little guy. Thanks for sharing!
@RussInCheshire omg, it's an armoured, hobbit footed, hamster 😍😍😍
@RussInCheshire how can something be both creepy and adorable?

@RussInCheshire The rare Austin Accordian Armadillo has never been spotted but can be heard late at night in local Tx bars. It’s cousin the Louisianna Zydeco Dillo is smaller but oddly enough makes more noise.

Neither are pink and no one has checked to see if their bums are furry...and lived.

@RussInCheshire I think I've treated my cats for this
@RussInCheshire
Miss, Miss, MISS . Please miss,
Russel said bum, miss.
Can you say bum on mastodon?
@RussInCheshire As a conservation biologist, I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't even know about the existence of this species and had to fact check it 🀫. And, yes, thanks for making my day - best thing I've seen on social media in a long time!
@RussInCheshire Oh my goodness, that is simply adorable. There are so many glorious creatures on this planet!
@RussInCheshire The best. The utter best. So sad to hear they're endangered. Otherwise I'd harass NZ Biosecurity until they let a whole group set up in some sand dunes here!

@RussInCheshire Sorry - to clarify.

They can burrow through sand as fast as a fish can swim ... through sand or water?

#Pedant

@RussInCheshire oh god, is that real?? It’s so lovely. I’m off to Google on that.
@RussInCheshire @jacquep I’ve blocked mention of the T*rys here on elephant-site but pleased to see you still make it into my timeline
@RussInCheshire I found out these exist a few months ago when a friend asked me to draw one! There may have been a (not entirely unintentional) misunderstanding along the way...
