Any #punk fans out there, what’s the best #TheClash song? There is a right answer but I’m interested in peoples opinions. (I will share the right answer later 😂)
#punkrock #70s #punkscene #thesexpistols #londonpunk

ANSWER: To everyone who has commented.
The correct answer is -

White Man (In Hammersmith Palais). It’s without doubt their best song.

Close contenders -
London Calling
White Riot
Tommy Gun - (which no one mentioned!)
Rock the Casbah

Honourable mentioned -
Police and Theives
Guns of Brixton
Should I Stay or Should I Go
Stay Free

Thing is we could go on for ever. The take away from this is that #TheClash are probably one of the best bands to have ever existed, and they have TOO MANY HITS!

@thegreatleslieband sorry Guns of Brixton is their best song.
@thegreatleslieband also Joe Strummer saved my life.

@thegreatleslieband

I like the Clash, but if we're talking Brit punk bands, the Damned were so much better. Also had a sense of humor, which is something the best punk bands had. Get too serious and preachy and you might as well just be U2.

That said, America started it, and the Stooges will never be surpassed. =D

@thegreatleslieband Whoops! Yesterday, when I made my first post I wasn't aware that Keith Levene had passed. I thought we were just engaged in the time honored "this band is better than that band" pissing contest.

No offense intended, rest in peace, Mr. Levene.

@ernie this is a strong contender, one of few getting far in the states. Though it wouldn’t be my favourite, but it is great. As is everything The Clash
@thegreatleslieband Owh! This is like 'What is your favourite child?' It's hard to get past 'London Calling', but for me 'The Guns of Brixton'.
@rupertmadeley in my opinion Guns if Brixton is a massively underrated track. But yeah London Calling is right up there. It’s certainly a top contender.
@thegreatleslieband Complete Control is my correct answer
@keithmorey hahahaha. Great great song, very underrated, but I would say there are a few that just hit harder.
@thegreatleslieband It perhaps has not aged as well as others but at the time it did it for me!
@thegreatleslieband Police on my Back is my personal favourite
@JimmyDM such a great song, easily forgotten amount so many giants but it is actually just so so good!

@thegreatleslieband

There are too many

@nicokruppe that is the truth of this question. Literally way to many

@thegreatleslieband

In 1978, while I was in London, I bought 3 recommended current "Punk" Albums (which changed my life instantly).
One was by X-Ray Spex, which had a very early NoWave approach.
The second was by Strangers, which quickly turned out wasn't punk at all but very cute RocknRoll.
The 3rd was Clash's London Calling and I still love it. It took me years to realize that this one was most far away from Punk music.

Anyway, Rock the Cashba and London Calling are all time Classics 😄

@nicokruppe 1000% correct. London Calling is probably their best album. It’s unreal. The truth is that they moved away from being pure punk almost instantly, second album, pretty much. But THEY still embodied punk and the greatest punk band ever in my opinion.
@thegreatleslieband Very hard question. I do love Rock in the Casbah and I fought the law, but London calling is still the best.
@yuriaxel I fought the law is a fantastic track, and London calling is a real contender for top spot. In my older age though I would say that I Fought The Law isn’t even there best cover! Which says something about how unbelievably brilliant they are. Police and thieves takes that title though. It was their first move into regga sounds mixed with punk and what became very much their distinctive sound
@thegreatleslieband my favourite Clash songs Safe European homes
Career opportunities
Garage land
@IF career opportunities is such a banger
@thegreatleslieband it always gets my head going these three songs relate to my youth from the late 70's & early 80's in Thatchers Britain
@IF unfortunately I think they are gonna be relating to a lot more peoples youth again. Said it a few days ago but Britain has never needed Joe Strummer more than now

@thegreatleslieband They did a great cover of Pressure Drop. More of #thejam #sexpistols or #xrayspecs man myself. Though had some great times listening to your band.

Regards Irish bands from that era always thought #stifflittlefingers were the better band.
