Twitter users jump to Mastodon - but what is it?

The little-known social network's user base has swelled after Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter.

@rhachmann It is. But more interestingly is what will happen on this new platform. I read that Michael Bang from Aarhus University believe that Twitter still are a must stronger platform for the kind of professional discussions that have been - and still are - going on on Twitter.
I have yet to see the #skolechat #edresearch #uddforsk #dkpol discussions develop here. I'm aware that we are in the beginning of a new hopefully beautiful friendship here.
@Ove @rhachmann How can a medium with a limit of about 50 words be a good platform for serious discussion? On some servers on Mastodon the limit is close to 1500 words. That makes a lot more sense, if we want in-depth discussions.
@stefanhansen @Ove Well, who said that people on twitter actually want to discuss??? - rather it has become a place to make claims and statement that are then hard to contest because the wordlimit makes it hard..Then again, Twitter never aimed to be a discussion forum... Let's see where Mastodon takes us ;)
@rhachmann Did you see the post I replied to?
@stefanhansen I believe I did...
