Here's a little game to try playing with your #gamedev project:

Can you describe your game in one, brief sentence... but that one sentence only describes *your* game, and no other games that exist?

It's incredibly important, both for marketing purposes, but also for steering the direction you take with your game's look and feel

Give it a go! Reply below with your sentence, and I'll see if I can name any other games that you're potentially describing!

This has accidentally turned into me just hearing about the cool stuff you’re all making haha
@mikerose Too bad you got too many answers lol, as I was really curious to see if you could find another game :-)

@mikerose
Lego spaceship Zelda.

And yeah okay that not a sentence, but it kinda feels like more words would just get in the way :)

@Farbs I was literally about to say “have you heard of captain forever” then I saw who said it haha

@mikerose Ha!

If you'd asked a few weeks ago I would have said Lego Elite, but it turns out exploring an infinite universe is far less interesting than exploring a large bounded environment with a win condition, so I have a bit of work ahead of me :)

@mikerose That's super interesting! 🤔

Here's my game:

Welcome to A.N.Y. Safety Patrol, where you solve puzzles, hunt down underage criminals and try to survive everyday school life. 🏫

Oh Christ, alright...

"A cinematic pixel art puzzle platformer starring a fox..."

I've lost, haven't I.

@mikerose Find your family by travelling and trading your way across a dystopian landscape full of unique colonies generated by machine learning algorithms.
@mikerose I’m developping a game where you take care of cute pixelart dinosaurs living in an overlay brin top of your Windows UI.
@mikerose The only racing game where the goal is to stop.
@mikerose
Okay, let's go!

"Play as a tech scammer in this Narrative Sim, swindling others over the phone to keep the wolf from the door."

@mikerose
Let's give this a try :3

"A soulslike dating sim with flirting-driven combat"

@mikerose A 3D platforming collect-a-thon made out of handcrafted materials.
@mikerose A colony management game with tactical turn-based combats.
@mikerose a melee slasher RTS hybrid set in dark age Britain just after the fall of the Roman Empire😁

@mikerose Today's prototype: A hacking game where you scout out servers through minesweeper-like logic, then use this intel to place your own programs in the system and beat the ICE in a turn-based chess-like battle.

Less polished of a pitch, but the project is not even a week old as of now 😅

@mikerose As an apothecary owner, you must decide how much you're willing to *sacrifice* for success, dealing with the unintended consequences of your actions along the way.

@mikerose Match 3 but you can only move a guy to swap things (in 6 moves or less).

(There is at least one game I know of that has a character's movement swap items instead of letting you swap anywhere, but good luck finding it.)

@mikerose “you’re a house filled w cute little creatures that loves to play card battles against other houses filled w cute little creatures in order to win the paintings on their walls to hang on your walls” is the best i can do
@mikerose "A puzzle adventure where the map and the territory are often conflated"
@mikerose Build trains and stuff on a million-hexagons planet, grow its population from zero to a million, and slowly terraform it through a dynamic simulation of atmosphere, temperature, water, and forests.

@mikerose

Accessibility-forward interactive fiction!

@mikerose Love letter to early 90s Hong Kong cinema

@mikerose Cool!

Zeldalike where you use and combine Elements to fight and solve puzzles.

@mikerose
- I made it
- It's on steam

That narrows it down to one game, do I win?

@mikerose it's a game where you go along on a little bicycle, going really quickly up and down hills and what-have-you, doing tricks and the game keeps going, like, "SICK!!!" or "WAZZO SPESH 180" at you just all the time.
@mikerose let's see... play as a collie on a journey through the Scottish Highlands to restore color to your humans the world
@mikerose A stealth game where you have to sneak the artwork that your grandma stole back into museums and swap it with the forgeries she left behind.
@mikerose How about a mixture between Auto Chess and Vampire Survivors set in a dystopic future?
@mikerose Probably not brief enough, but my last game's description was "Ted is a simple high wire unicycle daredevil stuntman, but for some reason, the government wants him dead, so it's a good thing he has a large sack full of bombs to fend them off!"
@mikerose An ill-fated zombie survival road trip, with a car full of jerks.
@mikerose
Super Prince of Persia Galaxy. Basically if mario could wall run, but the wall was the floor two minutes ago.

@mikerose

First person ps1 vampire horror minesweeper.

@mikerose
There are some cool ones in here, my turn!

“You pilot a glider, following radio signals and map coordinates through a world of endless clouds and canyons”

@mikerose You lead a ragtag band of demons protesting for better working conditions in Hell and end up deposing the Demon King and the entire infernal hierarchy

@mikerose
A platform-fighter on the NES.

(Damn! I was happy and proud until I realised that I can cite two others 😭)

@mikerose To quote the jingle directly

"Hop from the cats, lets learn some bird facts"

@mikerose A dude and his dinosaur partner travel to the apocalyptic future to make a video game so great that it saves the world.
@mikerose retrofps with a rearview mirror
@mikerose I generally say doom with a rear view mirror though
@mikerose
Top down, minimalist, souls-like.
@mikerose "IGF 2011 Excellence in Design winner" ... Although more descriptively: "Each tile you reveal heals you, turning darkness into a resource in this puzzle roguelike"
