During COP27, we urge the Egyptian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release all those held simply for peacefully exercising their human rights, implementing criteria set by local NGOs for these releases: fairness, transparency, inclusiveness and urgency. One of these prisoners is Alaa Abd El-Fattah, who is now on a water strike since the beginning of COP27. (thread)
A system that doesn't address the needs for climate justice and securing human rights is a system that has failed everyone – we need to keep both in mind.
Human rights and climate movements are stronger when we stand in solidarity together. Then we can also successfully push those in power to live up to significantly increased adaptation finance and immediately, drastically reduced greenhouse gas emissions. There is no climate justice without social justice and human rights.

@gretathunberg

sadly, there are so many companies that uses greenwashing to continue to break human rights. Look at the exploitation of children i the mines in Kongo for example.

@satan

There has been mined approx. 3x as much coal than iron in 2021. In Turkey, Russis and China, all of them with impecable records of stewardship and care. Focus should be broader than just Congo.

@Peter_Panther

It was just an example of how the west is just turning a blind eye to that problem. You know that.
@satan @gretathunberg I'm sure she's well aware of green washing :/
@gretathunberg do you think you will be able to reach enough people on this platform
@gretathunberg @LeatherSnipeBob In time she will. And we help her doing that …

@LeatherSnipeBob @gretathunberg This platform will grow by the day, it's just gaining momentum. We are the ones to make sure a community gets built up here, just as elsewhere it was the case.
@LeatherSnipeBob @gretathunberg is this only a question about how many or would the question whom you reach here maybe also worth being considered?

@LeatherSnipeBob
Maybe @gretathunberg can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that's why she's here. So far, outside of verification, she's just cross posted from twitter, something bots already do, and I'm sure she knows that her Twitter has better reach

I think she's joined as a way of endorsing the platform and helping it grow because it's more in line with her ideals, the same reason many of us joined. I never expected to effectively reach people here when I registered, I just wanted to help build something new, and I imagine she's trying to do the same

@LeatherSnipeBob @gretathunberg
Snipe-Bob, do you think you are doing enough against the climate sabotage or do you have to confess that you're delegating your responsibility to others and then give snide snipe comments from the sideline?

@gretathunberg great to see you here Greta.

A call to youth throughout the world: Build a mass movement to stop the Ukraine war!

The International Youth and Students for Social Equality—the student and youth movement of the Socialist Equality Parties, the national sections of the International Committee of the Fourth International—calls for the building of a mass global movement of young people to end the reckless escalation toward World War III.

@gretathunberg have a look at www.trade-free.org/ - it is a powerful idea that can tackle the many problems we face. If our world wide societies are based on trade (and they are), then we might change this trade environment by raising awareness about trade and focus on that.
There are people all around the world working against trade by creating trade-free goods&services and we should embrace and empower that: www.trade-free.org/directory

@gretathunberg And there are no human rights without climate justice. Water, food, housing, family, health care are human rights. They all depend on a planet that is cared for.
@gretathunberg Solidarity forever! Good to see you here Greta, keep fighting the good fight.
@gretathunberg Thats the point. And there ist no climate justice nor social justice nor human rights without animal liberation too. Animal exploitation bases on the same cruel and hierarchical thinking and it costs also human rights and clean water and clean air and it pollutes the environment and releases lots of CO2 too. Every liberation movement helps to liberate everyone and leaves no one behind.
@gretathunberg For sure. But any kind of action, to be effective, must take into account human nature (the way we think). Going back to XIX century is not the answer, further innovation is the answer. Manufacturing your phone pollutes as hell, but no one wants to get rid of it.
@danielr7z @gretathunberg we can have sustainable eco energy and humane production. it just doesn't benefit oil billionaires.
@tillianisafox @danielr7z @gretathunberg Yes, and we don't have to have new devices every 12/18 months.

@gretathunberg

We need to recalibrate our belief that this world owes us anything. Just like every other species we are successful because we have taken advantage of our environment. But our success and hubris has left far too many of us with a belief that we are masters of our world. Sadly, the next century will teach us we're not.

Even more sadly, it will take us a long time and a great deal of suffering before we learn it.

At this point I'm not even sure we're capable of doing so.

@gretathunberg Thank you, Greta.

Since my earliest formative years developing an awareness of the wider world, human rights principles have been the framework of my entire worldview, and this has always been inextricably linked with the environment and climate.

One cannot be, without the other.

@gretathunberg
"Climate Action without Social Justice is just Gardening"

Unless we learn from the mistakes we have made, that got us into this mess, we have no hope of getting out of it.

We turned a blind eye to all the destruction and injustice, while we focused on Wealth above all else. Only by waking up to the injustice and destruction can we fix this mess.
We need to build a future that is more compassionate, more just, that works in harmony with our planet.

@gretathunberg

It’s an unjust system when ever climate justice, human rights, and social justice aren’t being taking seriously with solutions.

@gretathunberg If THEY cant predict Natural Disasters THEY dont know anything about the Earth. If THEY believe Weather isNot part of the EARTH THEY'RE Not Supposed to be In the Positions THEY'RE Claiming to be Experts in.

IF THEY don't care about saving Lives then why do THEY speak?

@gretathunberg we need to force billionaires to care .. by taking away their power
@gretathunberg Agreed. Also, the global inequality in wealth is also roughly the dividing line btwn the main countries contributing to climate change and those being worst damaged.
@gretathunberg I wish I could be near you now.
