Does the NYT have a style guide somewhere that prohibits them from describing an attempted coup as such?

Trump May Pose a Test No Special Counsel Can Pass

Former President Donald J. Trump’s apparent plan to soon announce his candidacy is challenging Attorney General Merrick B. Garland’s desire to show that the Justice Dept. can operate above partisanship.

@emptywheel Scott Alexander claims that NYT's reading of their own style guide varies (esp. in questions of that shape) wildly between different parts of NYT.

@emptywheel Same style guide that kept them from using the word "lie" in relation to anything a candidate for office or elected official said... that lasted until about 2017...
@emptywheel they don’t say lie either. It’s weird to hear blatant and provable lies constantly referred to as anything except exactly what they are.
@emptywheel Sure seems that way...🤦‍♂️
@emptywheel It's in the internal-only style guide alongside "enhanced interrogation techniques" as well as "false statement," "falsehood," and "factual inaccuracy."
