I'm struggling with the notion that it doesn't matter what server you are on, because it all flows. It doesn't! I can't browse followers on other servers, making people hard to find.

And then I just encountered this

"Older posts from other servers are not displayed"

(the post which ended the thread was 14hours old, so "older" means last night)

#fediverse #ImConfused #Mastadon

@Rudydoesbooks You need to go to the search and type @[email protected] so for me it's @zikalify
@zikalify that’s not browsing. That’s connecting with someone you know, and by username. I’m talking about clicking on someone you know and browsing their followers, finding your network. That is a pretty fundamental thing that doesn’t work across instances.
@Rudydoesbooks Yeah I get what you mean, you might come across other people in threads or by search hashtags too but I can't go on your profile and see your followers I don't think.
@zikalify it makes discovery very changing across instances!
@Rudydoesbooks And it's worth noting, this is a Pleroma server, not Mastodon.

@zikalify how? Why? Why does that matter? It’s all kerflunks. And some ploohingies. Maybe a sploot.

If that matters, then I’ve got no business being here.

@Rudydoesbooks I haven't tried that yet. Then again, I haven't identified another server with topics I'm that interested in. My focus so far has been corraling my friends and finding each other in the dark here, but likely I'm going to encounter the issue you describe, in the near future.

"Older" probably means up to a certain memory threshold, so if a server is very active, "older" posts aren't very old at all.
