Hello #SciComm and #SciArt Friends! I'm new to Mastodon and glad to be here!
I'm a vertebrate palaeontologist by training, who focused on fossilized bird footprints ( #ichnology) from 145-66 million years ago! Why past tense? I was working for an NGO org for 17 years and the research program was denied funding. It was tough.
I retrained as a medical transcriptionist & started working as a remote live medical scribe in Podiatry in January 2022!

During all of that, I run two #SciComm projects:
#NameThatTrack, where I post images of animal tracks and traces and you use your tracking skills to guess the track-maker!

The other is a #SciArt project called #BirdGlamour, where I use cosmetics as a convo starter to get ppl interested in the lives, life history, and conservation of birds and other critters!

You can find me on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok with the same username!

I also have a #RescueKitty Ash! He's somewhere between 3 and 6 years old, and came from the SPCA. He was fostered before we got him and had developed a stress-UTI. We adopted him with the UTI, and other than a UTI scare in May he has been doing well! The only chronic issue is his dental health: some kitties are prone to resorption lesions on their teeth, and he's one of those kitties. He goes in for dental surgery December 19th, poor dude! He's still eating well! #caturday #CatsOfMastodon
@lisavipes #namethattrack and podiatry! An appropriate overlap! I considered going pre-med to be a podiatrist in undergrad because I had to have a surgery to treat a tarsal coalition when I was a teenager
@dantheclamman Oh wow, that's cool (from an anatomy perspective - I imagine there was some pain with that!) I keep wondering how old is too old to pursue medicine...(and it would totally be podiatry!)
