This migration over to Mastodon is really giving me a good idea of who is still active in geo “microblogging”. What’s the new hashtag for #Geo [Platform] - #GeoVerse #GeoMastodon #GeoPeeps ?
@pokateo @mapper @jimmyrocks I like the idea of something not "GIS", just because there's so much going on in geospatial outside of GIS

@dkwiens @mapper @jimmyrocks fair point

 I see you trying to come up with a new group hashtag. Would you like some help with that?

@dkwiens @mapper @jimmyrocks I'm hesitant for geoverse or anything with geo with it because of the overlap with geology. I'd vote for something with spatial or just map/mappy if we didn't like GIS.

Throwing out there:
#MappinessIsNextToGodliness
#MyMomSaysImSpatial

@pokateo @dkwiens @jimmyrocks I didn't think about the geology side at all. Funny how words are perceived differently depending on the person! :)
@dkwiens I get what you mean on the limiting aspect of "GIS". So here are 3 more propositions if it can help:

#MapStodon (favorite)
#FediMaps
#MapVerse

@pokateo @dkwiens @jimmyrocks For the record, #MapStodon has been used once before already by @amapanda back in 2018 :)
@mapper @dkwiens @jimmyrocks @amapanda #mapsodon is absolutely AWESOME and super support it. Sorry crew, but I'm going to probably be sticking with #gischat on my posts just because it's already a heavy lift to schedule GISchat posts every week and I don't have the bandwidth to make tweets/toots in two different areas (I'm relying on having set up auto tweets to Mastodon).
@pokateo @mapper @dkwiens @jimmyrocks @amapanda Here’s my totally unsolicited opinion: I’m also in favour of moving away from GIS and more broader to geo (or spatial) because I do think it encompasses a lot more. I for one dont relate to GIS at all, but work with geo stuff all day: satellite images, web mapping, etc
That being said I also appreciate your point Kate on sticking to what works for you
@MaxLenormand @pokateo @dkwiens @jimmyrocks @amapanda Opinion much welcome :)
Would one of the hashtags previously proposed cover it? Like #GeoVerse or #MapStodon?
(Regarding #GeoVerse, google just informed me that it's already the name of a geological data company...)
@pokateo @dkwiens @jimmyrocks @amapanda Totally understandable Kate, long live #gischat! There's room for several different hashtags, especially when the meanings differ.

@mapper @pokateo @dkwiens @jimmyrocks @amapanda

I'd stick with #GISchat for consistency if nothing else.

Why confuse people?

Just my one vote, out of hundreds if not thousands.

@mapper @pokateo @dkwiens @jimmyrocks @amapanda
If you're looking for a hashtag that goes beyond the Wednesday #GISchat discussion...
In the early days of twitter we used #GeoNerd to tag people and posts, which is platform agnostic.
@GeoDon @mapper @pokateo @dkwiens @jimmyrocks @amapanda Way way back when in the early days we had a #geoglobaldomination hashtag :)
@geobabbler @GeoDon @mapper @pokateo @dkwiens @jimmyrocks @amapanda And we got some good crews together for drinks at Bilbo Baggins' in Old Town Alexandria. Sadly Bilbo Baggins' closed in 2020.
@pokateo
Have you found an auto-tweet-from-mastodon tool?
Curious if there's one that would work in the other direction, too.
@mapper @pokateo @dkwiens @jimmyrocks 😁 I must say, someone else came up with mapstodon, not me.
