One thing I hate about Android is just how quickly devices get abandoned by manufacturers and it's on the 1337666 random custom ROM developers to keep it running (maybe).

If only if it was more like desktop GNU+Linux...
Just download their driver package and slap it into your "distro" of choice...

Maybe then I could have a device that isn't a year behind on security patches (because manufacturer abandoned it barely a year after I bought it) and still enjoy a functional device...

@finlaydag33k
lol no
a) can't sell you new device if the old one works fine
b)gotta have google spyware
@finlaydag33k postmarketos manages that :)
@arya Aye, the downside is that PostmarketOS doesn't run quite literally anything I want :\
@finlaydag33k I keep it simple, buy a recent phone, remove all malware and spyware from the maker and google, install f-droid and NoRoot Firewall so I control what accesses the Internet. I only allow a few apps to get internet and all other blocked. I have all apps I need and much more. This way you can also have apps from Aurora Store that gets them from Google Play. Not perfect but works.
@lizinhas9000 That doesn't really do anything for the problem I outlined in my toot.
If your device manufacturer gives it the EOL: You will now still need to rely on people making custom ROMs for it to keep getting security patches...
