The response from pCloud when I lost access to one of my files stored there:

"We have informed the developers on the matter but immediate fix is not possible. We'll get back to you in case the file is available again."

This is not the first time something happened to my files, and not the first time the response leaves much to be desired. So I'm now looking for a reliable cloud storage, recommendations appreciated.

#nextcloud would be really good, but it appears that the file sync client needs to store the entire contents of the cloud folder on the local disk. I need a solution where there is a limit on the local storeage used and the files are fetched on demand, like with pCloud or DropBox.
@bessify not correct. The client will only sync the directories that you are interested in
@mongrelion I was not clear: I know I can choose which folders to sync, but that's not the usage model I'm after. I'd like the contents of my cloud drive to appear as if they were available locally, but without taking up space, the files being downloaded transparently, when they are needed. I think NextCloud was supposed to have a feature like that, called virtual files, but it doesn't look like it's available on Linux.
@bessify ah, got it. Can't tell for sure in Linux but in Windows I can navigate through my drive without downloading a single file. The file will be downloaded/sync when I actually open it.
I suggest you give it a try and see for yourself. You might be missing out!
As per what I said in my previous toot, that only applies for the mobile client.
