11. Have you ever played an RPG character that was different enough that it felt truly other than human, beyond just wearing virtual SFX makeup? If you haven’t, do you think it’s possible and do you want to? #NonhumanRPG

@DanMaruschak Everything from the forge. IAWA, MLWM, DITV all the four letter games.

@DanMaruschak

Oh yeah, I've participated in both. I think around 2015 my thinking was "i'm not a game designer but i'd like to be, so let's do this for practice". So I did Avery Alder's rentpunk challenge, and @PaulCzege 's Threeforged. And those were fun, and I felt like "real games" resulted from them, so I did a few more. 200 word rpg competition, some others. Golden cobra. Idk. At some point it started to feel like an exercise for scene cred, which I no longer cared about, so I stopped

@DanMaruschak I've submitted to the 200 Word RPG contest and participated in Three forged.

I've always enjoyed the challenge of coming up with a game idea that can be concisely expressed.

@DanMaruschak With beyond SFX, you mean doesn't think or behave as a human would? That's tricky, as 1) human behaviour varies a lot and 2)it's quite easy to connect a behaviour to a human behaviour.

Does it require an entirely new behaviour? Does that behaviour require a logic or emotion behind it that a human could not resolve or feel?

If I perturbate my frjonds when I'm hungry, is that beyond human? Is it different from licking lips?

A puzzle indeed.

@cyancqueak I think the question invites considering both what it means to be nonhuman and what it means to roleplay someone/something. Can we use roleplaying to attempt to better understand something unlike ourselves? Or would the fact that we believe we could roleplay something call into question whether we're truly conceptualizing it as other?
