I’m about midway through my first significant non-Christmas vacation in more than two years. So I made sure to write a doom-mongering blog post: https://abject.ca/when-the-wheels-come-off/
When the wheels come off, inhumanity reigns

Today, in “blog posts that probably should have been a Tweet”… Reading Adam Johnson’s “People ‘Feel Unsafe’ Because Visible Poverty Is Everywhere” la…

@blamb oh dear! I hope the vacation is relaxing though!!
@lauraritchie Deep relaxation and good food. No home renos! (Hope that all goes as hope and you get the space of your dreams.)
@blamb Worrying times for sure - best not take leave over Christmas this year - Only so much doom-reading I can tolerate from my fav bloggers. Hope you're keeping well.
@blamb Reading an Abject Doom Mongering post is as close an experience to hanging out with you, for fun I went back to the first tagged 2011 mongering https://abject.ca/star-crossed-romance/ Enjoy the vacay amigo!
A star-crossed romance lurches into embittered isolated loneliness

@cogdog Not going to lie. Knowing you would read (and I did think you would, because you are the best blog reader in history) means a lot and I still invoke your voice as imagined reader when I write. ("What will Cogdog think?" is one of my internal questions!)

But I NEVER take you reading and commenting for granted. Thank you for keeping the faith all these years.

@cogdog Safe to say I had forgotten about that 2011 piece myself. I am presently re=reading, smiling and grateful for the memories!

@cogdog - "when we met RSS felt like a secret language that promised escape from grim realities, a sort of self-publisher’s samizdat. It was the foundation for some of my most enduring professional interests and relationships"

Trackback Love

Trackback Love We met in a crowded UBC conference room in 2003 He said "Blog" I said "RSS" Our eyes met, (And even though no one else in the room had a clue what we were talking about) right away, we knew. At the break, we rushed, breathlessly, into the hall, URLs nervously scribbled on busines...

@dnorman @blamb @draggin @[email protected] @grantpotter @Downes @sleslie I’d make that present tense. And I still have to look up words like “samizdat”!
@cogdog @dnorman @blamb @draggin @[email protected] @grantpotter @Downes if you read the "technique" section of the "samizdat" wikipedia page, you'd be hard pressed no0t to think you were reading a current piece aboutall the work-arounds students and faculty use to get access to DRM'd content they already should have access to. DRM is basically Capitalism's "First Department" of the KGB https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samizdat#Techniques
