For many #OpenStreetMap users on mobile (#OsmAnd, #OrganicMaps, #MagicEarth, apps that supports geo links), the built-in search feature is less than desirable. It works, *kinda*, but many wish it could be better.

If you're one of them users, you might want to check out #Acastus Photon, an #Android app that uses a #Photon server, an alternative geocoder for #OSM data.

Think of it as a companion app for leveling up the UX of your favorite #OSM front-end.

Somebody in my inbox asked why a different feature came up in the search results, for the example shown in the photo.

At the time, I did the search, the place node was still missing from #OpenStreetMap. However, thanks to the #OSMaPaaralan project, the information has been made part of the address tags of a nearby school.

That's why the school got a hit (even if it didn't share a name with the feature), because the information is part of its address tag.

@MapAmore

this is pretty cool !

Thank you !

@MapAmore Nice to see that komoot is also adding open source tools.
@barefootstache Are they? I never tried #Komoot, myself. 😬
@MapAmore If you go to the original website of the app Photon (https://photon.komoot.io/). It says it is open source.
Photon, search-as-you-type with OpenStreetMap

@barefootstache Cool! Thanks for the heads-up.
