RSS feeds!

I'd like to collect your recommendations for RSS feed readers. Please respond with the name of the RSS reader you use, and the platform it runs on. Thanks! :D

I'd also appreciate it if you could share whether it is gratis/paid, FOSS/proprietary, offline/self-hosted/hosted.

Boost OK.

@sindastra Netnewswire is nice. FOSS. For macOS and iOS. Can be used offline.
@sindastra I use feedbro, which runs as an add on in either Firefox or Chrome, it is free, no idea about its FOSS etc status
@sindastra QuiteRSS has been mostly satisfactory for me. It's GPL3 licensed, runs on Linux, Windows, Mac
@sindastra Miniflux, it's a FOSS self-hosted web thing, there's also a paid hosted version

@sindastra mostly IndiePass app in combination with Yarns Microsub Server. FOSS.

It's not just RSS tho - more like one endpoint to get em all 🤷

@sindastra oh yeah and rss-bridge / granary and some custom proxies for the really broken websites :>

Handy News Reader on Android (via F-Droid)

Newsboat on openSuSE Linux.
(Successor to newsbeuter)

@sindastra I just switched from Feedly to Inoreader. Both have web apps, native apps, and can be plugged into 3rd parties.

Both are freemium.

@sindastra
I use an app called Nextcloud News on my Phone. It's FOSS and on f-droid. On desktop I use newsboat. It is also FOSS.

I keep them synced through the Nextcloud RSS app.

@sindastra TheOldReader (https://theoldreader.com/). browser-based with mobile apps, hosted and proprietary. free for up to 100 feeds; premium account is a good value at $20/yr. definitely would recommend.

@sindastra

I used #rssOwl on windows, its FOSS . I think it no longer gets updates and might have security issues.

@sindastra I'm using QuiteRSS on Windows and it seems to work fairly well? I've tried FeedReader (and Google Reader back in the day) and related ones before, but this is the first one I've not got annoyed at really quickly (there's still time though).
