' #Dostoevsky novels are usually tragedies, and this one will not end well either. The wounds are too deep and the sins are too mortal. To end it, we can not simply promise to keep #NATO out of #Ukraine, and recommit to the armaments treaties we broke, as we could have, two weeks ago. before the invasion. . People say #Putin has gone mad, but NATO and the US went insane long ago. '

Ukraine as Dostoevsky Novel

Hatred for Russia is surging. A University in Italy even cancelled a course on Dostoevsky, one of Russia’s famous writers of the nineteenth century.

@bsmall2 Less so than Putin or Pupin or for the russkies pukin. Крыша поехала что ли?
@karamazov1879 "War is the health of the State" by Randolph Bourne might help us think about the issues. Sorry I can't read Cyrillic, or understand Russian.. But I want to work on the alphabet. I've had chances to meet people from Mongolia recently.
@bsmall2 Assume Cyrillic was forced upon them. Took a quick look at it. Couple of letters unknown, but it differs from language to language. A certain amount of slop over but enough to keep it interesting.
@karamazov1879 I read the introductions to a few books for learning Mongolian. The nation seems split with part in China and part in Russia. I think the part in China still uses a [or some) traditional script[s]. They needed 3 or 4 additional letters. The young guys I chatted with a few times mostly can't read the trad. script, but were impressed to see it on the National songs and dances. Korea's Hangul seems like the most sensible set of characters.
@karamazov1879 BTW, How'd you find this old post?
