A decade ago in 2012, a team with Paul and #AnneEhrlich wrote a most sobering of papers, titled 'Can a collapse of #civilization be avoided?'

Read it here:

Its all-encompassing.

The term #endarkening, in relation to loss of #freedom and #democracy and the aggressive forces that will assert themselves for #growth, is compelling.

At one point in the paper they put 'educated' in inverted commas, stating how the #education systems are failing against mythical #economicNarratives like 'growth can continue forever if it's in #serviceIndustries', or '#technology can save us'.

They're right, #perpetualGrowth itself is delusional, and its great to see them specifically target the 3.5% number #Keynesianism clings to. It doesn't delve into the #moneyPump specifically, which is unfortunate.

Do read the (15min read) paper.

One of the dangers that we see from the paper is the drive that may arise for a #techcratic solution in which unaccountable institutions, that are declared the most scientific, decide how things will operate, in places they don't even live in.

If not paired with something akin to at least a local #citizensJury, the #governanceModel may not be sustainable long-term.

While the paper does mention democracy, the things most described tend to fall under the category of #autocracy – so caution here.
