Circling back to a point that got me trolled. The perpetrators of #SulliDeals and #BulliBai etc would like you to think that this is about unprecedented targeting of Muslim women.

Fact: It isn't. All dissent is targeted in a variety of ways.

Muslim women got a most unpleasant welcome into 2022. Can't be denied. The perpetrators wanted to isolate and humiliate them.

Unless you have a problem with auctions as abuse specifically, it is just one of many acts and targets.

Muslim women + likes of @[email protected] @[email protected] or @[email protected] have long been trolled for little more than being women and saying inconvenient things.

An app in a corner of the internet for a few hours got far less visibility than organized campaigns with thousands of tweets

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] Heck, throw enough tweets at a person and it doesn't even take sexualized trolling to do some serious mental wreckage.

Men too have been targets of vicious campaigns.

Each instance can be a unique outrage, but really the issue is one of harassment as a method of silencing.

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] It is also about the weaponizing of words against political targets.

Increasingly, this isn't limited to bhakts either. Activism increasingly runs on hate and massive targeting of people for criticism.

Arresting perpetrators of sleazy auctions is required, BUT...

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] Even bigger need is to reject mental cruelty as a method of making our mark on the world.

Across the board. Whether it is bhakts or activists or a generic pissed off person.

Fighting dehumanization is necessary urgently.

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] There was a time when a large number of people stood for free speech.

Today a larger number seem to stand for "how dare you say..."

We need more functional alternatives to the hate. Both responding and stopping perpetrating.

That right there is where everyone loses.
