Random stats: There's currently:
* 39 bills under discussion in the Victorian parliament,
* 98 in South Australia and
* 122 in New South Wales
NB the NSW number is bigger because Fred Nile introduces a bunch of bills, they politely let him read them once, then they languish for the remainder of the term of government without even being lapsed... same with the Greens bills in all 3 states, generally.

What's going on in #SouthAustralia!? Per capita to #Victoria equates to 10 times.
TBH we could take or leave state govt. Double the number of federal reps and have State Committees with such. That would considerably remove the barrier to entry for regular ppl to gain seats so they won't do that.

Without keeping direct tabs on all the bills, its difficult to judge, but lets just say whenever we looked at the state govts #planning reforms they were #antidemocratic, cronyist, #speculation feeding, confidence tricking, #greenwashing, centralising, #payForPlay-ing…
You name it. They do it.
@dsfgs I am working really hard to keep direct tabs on literally all the bills at the moment - there's only a small proportion that are partisan like that, but they are the ones that make the news.
Mundane ones like Bus safety being moved to the Bus regulator, drink driving laws now applying to granny scooters, etc - aren't exciting, so those don't make the press.
One of the states did just change their rules so that planning documents can be displayed on their website instead of at the Planning dept offices...

The sad part is they've already done most of the damage that they can do re #planning. So they've likely reached a plateau and in fact may feel like they need to do less evil today.
Especially given the alleged '#treeChange'

The problems re planning have been decades in the making, under the imprisonable 1996-2007 PM they really accelerated.
Most people who watched closely, attribute #Sydney's 2000 #Olympics, the #warCrimes and #immigration and #refugeeAbuse of that PM, to #Australia's gentrification and #overdevelopment abuses - the effects of which are felt today.
