Oh, dear. I'm on #TwitterLockdown because yesterday I called a poor-shamer an "Ugly Little Snot."

I only regret not having room to specify that I meant *ugly on the inside*.

I think Midnight 6/30 would be a good time to try going cold turkey (ha!) from the Birdsite for at least a little while. I mean, I'll miss a lot of people & great accounts like @womensart1 but with any luck more of them will eventually find this place.
The plot thickens. Just looked at the hall monitor's deletion demands & it wasn't over poor-shamers after all. It was over WS sympathizers. Even better. #FuckTwitter
Nazis must have their safe space from these kinds of dangerous threats. :D
"Hi, thanks for contacting Support. In a week or so we'll get back to you re: your wrist-slap that will have been over for days by then. ha ha ha ha ha Sieg Heil <3 Jack" #FuckTwitter
Flashing back now on one of those ostensibly #FreezePeach boards years ago where similar happened. I told off a bigot & my post got modded away while hers was allowed to remain. Really amazing how so many people are more concerned with being nice to bigots then to the people who get angry at being their subjects.
Maybe this space will do better even as it grows. I guess I can hope, right?
@amylsacks I think there is a real chance here b/c of the "instances" that can be created...can fork it off to avoid assholes. Twitter was pretty chill until like 2011 when normies found it
@amylsacks Also I love the idea of not having a ton of followers. Things move so much slower and it is great. I have people from like 9 aspects of my life following me on The Bird and it is exhausting

@wpwend LOL But, Professor, I AM a *~*normie*~* 😏

I need to investigate more how the instance thing works. I'm not a techie & have read it a few times but don't really get it. I just wish I had a point-by-point guide to how I'd deal with a bigot if they started bugging people on an instance I was running.

@amylsacks Yeah I read it a few times too and am still not sure at all. It IS a little worrying how vague it is
@wpwend Right. So if a Nazi starts in here w/crap, I can block them & warn others. But will somebody working for the site step in & take a hard look at what they're doing? Or will it just be a non-aggression pact where they trust if enough ppl. block enough Nazis the latter will be effectively immobilized?
@wpwend Non-aggression will work only if the site stays tiny. If droves of Nazis find their way here, it's pretty worthless and the emotional toll alone will cause strife & probably fall-outs among friends. I've seen this happen before with an MRA who pretty much wrecked another board I was on b/c of its "no bans ever" policy.
@amylsacks Yeah same here. I used to be on a board with a dude who used a ton of 4C/GG style tactics and terrorized people but the fucking liberals who ran it wanted to try to fix him or something. He doxed me at one point and threatened to kill someone's kid and literally only stopped b/c he died
@wpwend Yeah, I remember you telling me about that. The (at least then-) notorious MRA who trashed that other site did his work like 9-10 years back, and when I think about it I'm still sad. Some of those great folks have probably passed on. At least one was battling one illness after another when it all went down but she never lost her sense of humor.
@amylsacks Yeah I feel out with a lot of people during that time. I noticed a few years ago some of them have me blocked on The Bird too. Oh well.
@wpwend I wonder what it is in human nature that pushes us to think the best of the worst people in the world-- regardless of how much they harm us and the people/things we care about. Something's gone wrong here.
@wpwend Somehow we took the ideal of being humble and understanding our universal flaws/limits and made them into this thing: It gives sociopaths carte blanche to gut communities but as long as things look placid/neat on the outside we've done our work well. 🤐
@amylsacks yeah it's that "this is fine" gif for everything
@wpwend The weirdest thing: the longest-running board for me membership-wise is run by a conservative dude. He and his mods will let the occasional outbreaks of political fighting run for awhile. Then a mod will step in, and announce that the thread's run its course and will be locked shortly. It seems to serve everyone well.
@wpwend I've never known anyone to be thrown out over anything other than persistent spamming or a repeated complaint of harassment from someone else. Both seem *very* rare.
@amylsacks Yeah I'm on a board like that too. It more or less works.
"Also, we *said* you'd still be able to log in and read during the lockdown, but we've changed our minds. You'll just have to look at our insulting reprimand message for the duration. Enjoy, little lolcow!" --support #FuckTwitter
@amylsacks I'm planning on at least taking August off from The Bird like I did last year. I share same hope people keep moving over
