I believe that Miyazaki pushes himself too hard, maybe also doesn't sleep out of stress for not being able to get a scene the way he wants... and then he gets into a really bad mood.
It often happens to me as well, although not that bad (at least I hope!)
@codewiz I actually watched a few minutes of it the other day and I noticed his weird mood.
Btw, did you get to watch his Sherlock Hound episodes. I rewatched some lately and the animation and detail is breathtaking. Episode 4 is really good. The story and the characters are more simple than Conan, though. It's more kid oriented. So it's a bit of a clash.
