decided - against what my brain told me - to just leave my cacti out in the rain. they all look great and have new growth, so i guess i am figuring this out a bit?

@queenoftheleft What hardiness zone are you in (if you don't mind my asking)? I'm no expert on succulents, but I'm in Zone 6a and I know tons of people who have cacti in their outdoor flowerbeds that survive through winter temps just fine.

In any case, nice cactus, and I don't think a little rain will do it much harm so long as the medium drains well.

@SimpleBastard getting the right organic material to drainage material ratio in this humidity has helped a ton!

@queenoftheleft well a lot of gardening is sifting through the literal tons of info out there and trying to figure out what applies in your particular circumstances.

For my part, last autumn I finally got a Paw-Paw tree to fruit after having planted it over a decade ago. Silly me, I had no idea they were pollinated by carrion beetles and flies (not bees) until last year.

@SimpleBastard it's definitely a science, and you can learn forever...
