Yay! The community radio I've been heavily involved in building up from 2013 to 2016 will finally get their FM broadcasting license and be on air in a week. That's 6 years of hard work (99% volunteering), lobbying, learning and teaching and dealing with bureaucracy finally bringing a positive result.

They've been streaming since may, but the date for the FM license came on very short notice.

I'm so increadibly happy!

Freies Radio Fratz

Also congratulations to @[email protected] who've been fighting alongside us and had their FM broadcasting start this Monday.

And of course the amazing umbrella association of community radio the #BFR and the radios organized therein. You've been very helpful!

@dwagenk Thats awesome!
@dwagenk What does the radio station play mostly?

@cavaliertusky well, they'll be broadcasting 24/7 so there's a lot of room for different programms.

The web radio stream has been dominated by music of all kinds, but there's a lot more content planned.

From my experience with established community radios there will be a lot of room for discussing local events and politics and providing a platfirm for local groups. Than there's the urge to also present the day to day news and otherwise unheard interpretations of the events.

@cavaliertusky in general the concept of these radios is more about giving people the possibility and tools to talk for themselves instead of talking about them, so a lot will depend on how the group grows and who will become a part of the community radio.

And also the leftist/community-oriented/inclusive character of those radios is important. Instead of just offering air time to everybody who wants to broadcast something, it's curated and peer-reviewed.

@dwagenk That sounds awesome and much needed!
@cavaliertusky yes! By the way, local = #flensburg in this respect.
@cavaliertusky one thing I've got planned for when I've got time to get involved again (no idea, when that's gonna be) is a regular program with assorted exerpts from all the great podcasts and conference talk recordings I listen to (mostly techy stuff, free software, some more political on the tech<->society relation).
